Index HealthTech

Index HealthTech develops passive, contactless monitoring infrastructure that detects functional decline and physiological drift before adverse health events occur—without wearables, cameras, or subject compliance. The company’s patent-pending Sense™ platform uses mmWave radar and far-field acoustics to continuously measure respiration, mobility, sleep, gait, and behavioral patterns across six domains. These signals are translated into the Healthy Habits Index™ (HHI™), a 0–100 behavioral biomarker that quantifies functional status and change over time. At the system level, Index HealthTech models individual trajectories to identify early-stage decline patterns before they become clinical events or mission-limiting conditions—enabling intervention during the narrow window where outcomes can still be altered. The platform is designed for environments where traditional monitoring fails: uncontrolled living spaces, high-throughput care settings, and operational environments where compliance-dependent tools are impractical. It requires no physical contact, no per-user calibration, and no behavioral change from the monitored individual. Backed by over $5M in NIH and NIA funding, Index HealthTech is advancing a new class of continuous behavioral biomarkers with direct application to warfighter health monitoring, veteran care, traumatic brain injury recovery, PTSD-related behavioral drift, and post-deployment readiness assessment.

TecTraum Inc.

TecTraum Inc. is pioneering the advancement of concussion therapy with the development of Pro2cool®, the world’s first FDA-designated Breakthrough Device for post-concussion cooling therapy. The company’s mission is to provide a safe, effective, and easy-to-use medical device that can be deployed in various settings to reduce the signs and symptoms of concussion, particularly in athletes. TecTraum emphasizes science before sales, conducting extensive clinical trials to validate the safety and efficacy of its technology. Our vision is to revolutionize concussion treatment and improve patient outcomes. Pro2cool® works by using selective localized external cooling of the head and neck. The technology leverages hypothermic therapy, or cold therapy, in the form of a precisely controlled thermoelectric cooling device and garment applied to the head and neck. Once the pro2cool® is in place, the chiller assembly reduces the temperature of a coolant mixture in the device to 6°C and circulates it through the cooling garment to create precision conductive heat transfer from the head and neck. The physiologic neuroprotective benefit from cooling the injured region occurs at the cellular level. By interrupting the body’s naturally occurring localized inflammatory response with the introduction of cold therapy, the cellular- based metabolic cascade is dampened, thereby minimizing the ensuing damage caused by the body in response to injury. Pro2cool® imparts a proven significant clinical difference through just two treatments at 6°C administered for 30 minutes each, separated by 72 hours from the time of diagnosis. Extensive data derived from a large pivotal clinical trial supports the efficacy of the device. The multisite trial, completed in 2022, was designed to enroll patients between the ages of 12 and 21. It is the first and only concussion treatment study of this population. Four leading pediatric medical centers – three in Ohio and one in Michigan – served as investigational sites: Akron Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Dayton Children’s Hospital, and the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. In addition to the Breakthrough Device Designation, Pro2cool® has been studied in the largest known clinical trial for concussion therapy; has been issued a first ever Category III CPT reimbursement code by the American Medical Association; and, TecTraum has completed Quality System audits, and received certification as an FDA 13485 registered medical device manufacturer. The company is awaiting FDA clearance under the De Novo regulatory approval pathway. TecTraum has begun production and is looking to partner with the Department of Defense as well as MTEC members to demonstrate the unique and important capabilities of Pro2cool® in support of our Nation’s Warfighters.

Cambridge Medical Technologies

Cambridge Medical Technologies (CMT) is pioneering a transformative leap in combat casualty and critical care medicine with its advanced biosensor platform. Originally founded on research funded by DARPA, the Army Research Office (ARO), and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, CMT’s mission has been clear from the start: develop non-invasive, real-time monitoring of blood chemistry for soldiers in the field. Their breakthrough technology samples subcutaneous interstitial fluid (ISF) painlessly and analyzes it outside the body for key biomarkers—starting with glucose and lactate, and now expanding to include blood pH. This innovation is especially critical in military medicine, where early detection of hemorrhagic shock, sepsis, and metabolic failure can mean the difference between life and death. Traditional vital signs like heart rate and blood pressure often fail to reveal the severity of internal injuries or compensated shock. CMT’s biosensor platform fills this gap by continuously tracking biochemical indicators that reflect tissue perfusion (lactate), acid-base status (pH/base deficit), and stress response (glucose). These metrics are widely recognized in both civilian and military clinical guidelines as essential for guiding resuscitation and predicting outcomes. Unlike conventional blood tests that require invasive sampling and lab processing, CMT’s devices—such as the LabPatch and LabClasp—use a proprietary method to extract ISF through the skin without needles. Within seconds, they deliver accurate readings of lactate and glucose, with pH integration underway. This allows medics and clinicians to monitor trends in real time, enabling faster, more informed decisions during trauma care, sepsis management, and evacuation triage. For combat medics operating in austere environments, this technology is a game-changer. A wearable patch could continuously stream vital biochemical data from a wounded soldier to a handheld device, alerting caregivers to rising lactate or falling pH before traditional signs deteriorate. In emergency departments and ICUs, the same platform could reduce reliance on repeated blood draws, improve response times, and enhance patient outcomes. CMT’s work aligns directly with the goals of the Department of Defense’s Advanced Medical Monitor (AMM) initiative under the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC). As future combat operations are expected to produce mass casualties and strain medical resources, integrating biochemical monitoring into standard vital sign systems is no longer optional—it’s urgent. CMT’s technology offers a scalable, field-ready solution that brings ICU-level insight to the point of injury. In summary, CMT is redefining how we monitor and manage shock and sepsis in both military and civilian care. By combining non-invasive ISF sampling with rapid, multi-analyte analysis, their platform empowers caregivers with the data they need—when and where they need it most. COMPANY BACKGROUND: EXECUTIVES: Dr. John Currie, Inventor & Chief Science Officer, Jack Jachmann, CEO, ¤ James Cooke, CFO. FUNDING: $30M in investment. GRANTS: 3 SBIR awards totaling $2M.
