Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MTEC?
MTEC is a public-private biomedical consortium connecting leading organizations across industry, academia, and government to accelerate medical technologies supporting military and civilian health. MTEC operates under a government-awarded Other Transaction Agreement (OTA), a flexible contracting vehicle that enables faster collaboration and innovation. Through member-only, non-dilutive funding opportunities, MTEC helps organizations move promising technologies from prototype to real-world impact.
Is MTEC membership right for my organization?
MTEC members include organizations of all sizes—from startups to global companies—as well as universities, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, investors, and service providers in the U.S. and around the world.
Is membership required to participate in funding opportunities?
Yes. An organization must have active MTEC membership to submit a proposal for an MTEC funding opportunity. Organizations may begin reviewing publicly available opportunity information before joining, but membership must be active before proposal submission.
What types of funding opportunities are available?
MTEC opportunities address a wide range of military medical and biomedical technology priorities. Topics may include diagnostics, medical devices, digital health, autonomous care, regenerative medicine, infectious disease, trauma care, physiological monitoring, and other areas supporting patient care and operational readiness.
How quickly does membership become active?
Membership activation begins after the registration process and required payment are completed. Processing time may vary if additional organizational information is needed.
Do members need federal contracting experience?
No. Prior federal contracting experience is not required to become a member. MTEC provides opportunity information and resources that can help organizations better understand the proposal and collaboration process.
Can members submit proposals independently or as part of a team?
Depending on the opportunity, members may submit independently or collaborate with other organizations. Each solicitation explains the applicable eligibility, teaming, and submission requirements.
