VerimedRx

VerimedRx is a medical device startup focused on transforming medication preparation and delivery through automated compounding with IV workflow software. The company aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of medication preparation in pharmacies by developing a small, easy-to-implement automated compounding device. This innovation addresses the challenges of manual IV compounding, which can lead to inaccuracies and scalability issues as patient infusions increase and regulatory demands grow. What We Do

VerimedRx is a pharmacy compounding company. Pharmacy compounding is extracting medication from drug vials and bags and combining them with other fluids at precise volumes per a doctor’s prescription. Most hospitals do this manually using pharmacy technicians. VerimedRx would like to work with an R&D organization based in San Diego to create an automated compounder and IV Workflow SW system that increases efficiency and accuracy of all medication types. This semi-automated machine will decrease wrong drug errors by verifying the correct medication is used, automate the process of extracting and pushing the drug into the drug bag, track lot number and expirations of drugs and document the process for pharmacy verifications. Current pharmacy pumps use outdated technologies, such as Peristaltic Pumps that are not optimal for high throughput, accurate transfers (+/- 5%). These technologies also require hospitals to use expensive and oftentimes unnecessary disposables that increase cost without adding benefits. VerimedRx aims to create a pump that utilizes two syringe style, linear motors that work in concert with each other to decrease the time it takes to transfer all volumes of medications. Utilizing linear motors offers key advantages when transferring fluid including: more precision, less set up times and reduction of air; all key pain points in hospital pharmacies. The drawback of syringe style pumps is that there are cycles between drawing back fluid and pushing fluid, whereas peristaltic pumps offer continuous flow. This device will resolve this drawback by incorporating two pumping mechanisms. While the first pump is pushing fluid into the container, the second pump will be drawing fluid from the source bag. This will in effect, mimic the continuous flow of a peristaltic pump while offering the precision advantages of a linear motor. VerimedRx’s team has experience in this type of technology and are confident this technology can be applied in the pharmacy. There is currently nothing on the market that is designed for all medication types. VerimedRx can create an automated pharmacy compounder that will be compatible with all medication types and all associated disposables. VerimedRx will be the only vendor that could provide a more precise tool and cost savings while allowing a hospital’s choice in disposables. An embedded software program that will have the ability to be linked to the FDA drug database and various EHR platforms will further streamline workflow that currently act as bottlenecks within the pharmacy workflow today. This device can resolve pain points in the hospital, as studies have shown there is a roughly 9% error rate in compounded medication. The issue of IV accuracy is best summarized through the efforts of ThrivCoalition.org (www.thrivcoalition.org). True innovation is going to come from small companies that will build innovative solutions and carve out burgeoning markets for the greater good of US and global hospitals.
