The THOR Research Institute (TRI) is a virtual organization dedicated to advancing resuscitation science through translational research, spanning from basic science to clinical trials and implementation. TRI collaborates with academia, industry, and federal agencies to conduct impactful research, support licensure applications for medical devices and biologics, and develop educational programs. Its mission is to improve outcomes in trauma and transfusion medicine by fostering innovation, evidence-based recommendations, and global partnerships.

What We Do

Development of a clinical trial to examine the safety and efficacy of cold stored platelets in patients with leukemia and thrombocytopenia.

Creation of recommendations for treating severe bleeding and preventing/treating alloimmunization to reduce hemolytic disease risk in fetuses and newborns.

Comparing the hemostatic effect of multiple sources of fibrinogen in in vitro models of hemostasis.

Development of an online calculator to determine the hemostatic content of different blood products.

Designing studies to determine the efficacy and safety of blood and IV warming systems for prehospital and in-hospital use.

Establishment of focus groups to educate clinicians on emerging therapies in transfusion medicine.
