Human Brain Project

The Human Brain Project is a European initiative that has significantly advanced neuroscience and brain research over a decade. It aims to understand the brain through interdisciplinary research, data integration, and innovative technologies, fostering diversity, gender equality, and inclusive scientific practices. The project has delivered scientific achievements, developed tools and infrastructure, and promoted equal opportunities and diversity in neuroscience. It has built a research infrastructure called EBRAINS, which offers extensive brain data sets, modeling and simulation tools, high-performance computing resources, and robotics and neuromorphic platforms. The project is structured in multiple work packages and governed by a Stakeholder Board, Directorate, Science and Infrastructure Board, and advisory bodies including the Science and Infrastructure Advisory Board, Ethics Advisory Board, and Ombudsperson. It has a strong focus on ethics, diversity, and responsible research, with initiatives like the High Potential Mentoring Programme and Diversity in Research Paper Awards. The project has received broad media coverage and is involved in international collaborations and strategic partnerships.
