MRICD’s roots in the Army Medical Department go back to 1917 and the dawn of chemical warfare on the battlefield. Since 1981, MRICD, as a Department of Defense (DOD) research laboratory, has served as the DOD’s lead laboratory for medical chemical defense research and development. While our core mission is to protect the warfighter from chemical and biochemical threats, we also develop solutions for civilian and homeland medical chemical defense. Research conducted at MRICD leads to medical solutions, including therapeutics, diagnostics, decontamination products and medical information that benefit both military and civilian personnel.
