Sana Health publishes first peer-reviewed article exploring the effectiveness of Sana device in managing PTSD in MTEC/MOMRP/VA study

With support from Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP) and MTEC, researchers at the Lowcountry Center for Veterans Research showed that the Sana Device coupled with best available treatment was twice as effective at improving PTSD symptoms, as best available treatment alone. This included improvement anxiety, depression and quality of life for patients with PTSD.

A recent pilot study explored the potential of the Sana Device as a treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in veterans, with promising results. In this blinded, randomized controlled trial, 48 veterans were divided into two groups. One group received the Sana Device combined with gold standard PTSD treatments (Sana+TAU), while the other received only gold standard PTSD treatment (TAU). The study aimed to assess the device’s ability to alleviate PTSD symptoms, anxiety, depression, and improve overall quality of life. Results indicated that the group using the Sana Device showed significant improvements across these areas compared to the control group. The device, which uses non-invasive neurostimulation technology, was found to be a safe and effective complement to traditional therapies. These findings suggest that the Sana Device could play a key role in enhancing mental health care, especially for veterans, by providing a side-effect-free, drug-free alternative for managing PTSD symptoms.

The study’s success paves the way for future, larger-scale trials and potential integration of the technology into broader PTSD treatment strategies. MOMRP via MTEC is funding a $3.4m pivotal study to be conducted over the next two years.

Sana is also conducting a PTSD+ Pain trial in combat injured veterans in Israel, in conjunction with the Chair of the National Council for PTSD in Israel. In addition, this week has filed a Neuropathic Pain Denovo with the FDA and expects full marketing approval towards the end of 2025.

The research project award recipients were selected from the respondents to MTEC’s Request for Project Proposals soliciting medical technological solutions related to MTEC’s Technology Focus Areas (Solicitation #MTEC-21-06 MPAI).
