Abstract
Apparatus and methods are described, including apparatus for treating a cavity in a human body, the apparatus including a delivery tube. A barrier device has a collapsed and an expanded configuration, the barrier device moving from the collapsed to the expanded configuration upon being deployed from the delivery tube. A pushing element, slidably disposed within a lumen of the delivery tube, deploys the barrier device from the delivery tube by pushing the barrier device. One or more barrier-deployment elements are coupled to the barrier device and to the pushing element, the barrier-deployment elements being configured to conformingly contact the barrier device with tissue surrounding the cavity. The barrier device is configured to isolate the cavity from surrounding body fluid that is between the barrier device and the pushing element, following deployment of the barrier device from the delivery tube. Other applications are also described.
Core Innovation
The disclosed invention describes an apparatus for treating a cavity in a human body. The apparatus includes a delivery tube and a barrier device that has a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, and the barrier device moves from the collapsed configuration to the expanded configuration upon being deployed from the delivery tube.
A pushing element is slidably disposed within a lumen of the delivery tube and is configured to deploy the barrier device from the delivery tube by pushing the barrier device. The apparatus further includes a plurality of barrier-deployment elements coupled at respective distal ends to the barrier device and to the pushing element.
The barrier-deployment elements are configured to conformingly contact the barrier device with tissue surrounding the cavity. Following deployment, the barrier device is configured to isolate the cavity from surrounding body fluid that is between the barrier device and the pushing element. A first one of the barrier-deployment elements comprises a spring having a first spring-arm pivotably coupled to the pushing element and a second spring-arm pivotably coupled to the pushing element, where a proximal end of the second spring-arm is more longitudinally moveable than a proximal end of the first spring-arm.
Claims Coverage
The partial content provides one independent claim (clm-00001). The main inventive features cover a minimally invasive cavity-treatment apparatus with a collapsible-to-expanded barrier device deployed by a slidably disposed pushing element and a plurality of barrier-deployment elements that conformingly contact surrounding tissue and isolate the cavity from surrounding body fluid, including a spring-based barrier-deployment element with differing longitudinal movability of proximal spring-arm ends.
Barrier device deployed from a delivery tube with collapsed-to-expanded configurations
A barrier device having a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, the barrier device moving from the collapsed configuration to the expanded configuration upon being deployed from the delivery tube.
Slidably disposed pushing element for deployment
A pushing element, slidably disposed within a lumen of the delivery tube, configured to deploy the barrier device from the delivery tube by pushing the barrier device.
Plurality of barrier-deployment elements conformingly contacting surrounding tissue
A plurality of barrier-deployment elements coupled at respective distal ends thereof to the barrier device and to the pushing element, the barrier-deployment elements being configured to conformingly contact the barrier device with tissue surrounding the cavity.
Isolation of the cavity from surrounding body fluid between barrier device and pushing element
The barrier device being configured to isolate the cavity from surrounding body fluid that is between the barrier device and the pushing element, following deployment of the barrier device from the delivery tube.
Spring-based barrier-deployment element with different proximal longitudinal movability
A first one of the barrier-deployment elements comprises a spring, comprising a first spring-arm pivotably coupled to the pushing element at a proximal end of the first spring-arm, and a second spring-arm pivotably coupled to the pushing element at a proximal end of the second spring-arm, wherein the proximal end of the second spring-arm is more longitudinally moveable with respect to the pushing element than is the proximal end of the first spring-arm.
Overall, claim coverage centers on an apparatus that deploys a barrier device from a delivery tube using a slidably disposed pushing element, where multiple distal barrier-deployment elements conformingly contact tissue and isolate a cavity from surrounding body fluid, with at least one barrier-deployment element implemented as a spring having proximal spring-arm ends with different longitudinal movability.
