Abstract

A method for providing electrical stimulation to a user as a user performs a set of tasks during a time window, the method comprising: providing an electrical stimulation treatment, characterized by a stimulation parameter and a set of portions, to a brain region of the user in association with the time window; for each task of the set of tasks: receiving a signal stream characterizing a neurological state of the user; from the signal stream, identifying a neurological signature characterizing the neurological state associated with the task; and modulating the electrical stimulation treatment provided to the brain region of the user based upon the neurological signature, wherein modulating comprises delivering a portion of the set of portions of the electrical stimulation treatment to the brain region of the user, while maintaining an aggregate amount of the stimulation parameter of the treatment provided during the time window below a maximum limit.

Core Innovation

The invention provides electrical stimulation to a user while the user performs a task within a time window, with stimulation delivery guided by biosignal-detected neurological state. A biosignal detection device receives a signal stream characterizing a neurological state in association with performance of the task, and a processing system identifies a neurological signature indicative of the neurological state from the signal stream.

The electrical stimulation device provides an electrical stimulation treatment with a waveform to a brain region in association with the time window. The stimulation treatment is modulated based upon the neurological signature by detecting at least one of an entrance and an exit of the neurological signature at the biosignal detection device, so the treatment is responsive to changes in the neurological signature during the time window.

The method further guides the user in performing the task at a mobile computing device, where the task includes an athletic performance training activity. A detection device coupled with the electrical stimulation device receives a signal stream characterizing a state of the user interacting with the electrical stimulation device, identifies a signature characterizing the state in association with the task, and modulates the electrical stimulation treatment based on detecting at least one of the entrance and the exit of the signature.

Claims Coverage

The independent claims cover closed-loop neurological-signature-based modulation of brain electrical stimulation during a task-associated time window, with entrance and/or exit detection and user task guidance at a mobile computing device. The claims present two closely related inventive feature sets.

Biosignal detection during task within a time window

Receiving, at a biosignal detection device, a signal stream characterizing a neurological state of the user within a time window in association with performance of a task.

Neurological signature identification indicative of neurological state

Identifying, by a processing system coupled to the biosignal detection device, a neurological signature indicative of the neurological state from the signal stream.

Brain-region electrical stimulation associated with the time window

Providing, by an electrical stimulation device in communication with the biosignal detection device, an electrical stimulation treatment with a waveform to a brain region of the user in association with the time window.

Entrance/exit detection triggering stimulation modulation

Modulating the electrical stimulation treatment based upon the neurological signature by detecting at least one of an entrance and an exit of the neurological signature at the biosignal detection device and modulating upon detection of at least one of the entrance and the exit.

Mobile task guidance for athletic performance training activity

Guiding the user in performing the task at a mobile computing device, wherein the task includes an athletic performance training activity, and modulating the electrical stimulation treatment based upon the neurological signature associated with the athletic performance training activity.

State signal stream reception while interacting with stimulation device

Receiving, at a detection device coupled with the electrical stimulation device, a signal stream characterizing a state of the user interacting with the electrical stimulation device as the user performs a task.

Task-associated signature identification from the signal stream

Identifying a signature characterizing the state in association with the task from the signal stream.

Signature entrance/exit detection to modulate stimulation

Modulating the electrical stimulation treatment provided to the brain region of the user based upon the signature by detecting at least one of an entrance and an exit of the signature at the detection module and modulating upon detection of at least one of the entrance and the exit.

The independent claims collectively define closed-loop electrical stimulation to a brain region driven by a task-associated neurological signature identified from a received signal stream, with modulation triggered by detecting a signature entrance and/or exit and user guidance for an athletic performance training activity at a mobile computing device.

Stated Advantages

Not explicitly described in patent.

Documented Applications

Athletic performance training activity in which the user is guided at a mobile computing device while electrical stimulation is modulated based on a neurological signature associated with the athletic performance training activity.
