Abstract
Methods and systems for retention and use of historical patient-specific information in selecting and/or designing patient-adapted articular repair systems are disclosed herein. Various embodiments include articular repair system components that are selected and/or designed based, at least in part, on both current patient-specific information and historical patient-specific information. According to certain embodiments, a method of making an implant component for intended treatment of a diseased or damaged joint of a patient is disclosed.
Core Innovation
The invention retains and uses historical patient-specific information associated with a diseased or damaged joint together with current patient-specific information. It provides a method of making an implant component by receiving current patient-specific information associated with the joint and receiving historical patient-specific information associated with the joint, and then selecting and/or designing an implant component based, at least in part, on both current patient-specific information and the historical patient-specific information.
The invention distinguishes between joint-facing and bone-facing implant features using different sources of patient-specific information. It includes an implant component with a joint-facing surface having a patient-adapted dimension based, at least in part, on historical patient-specific information associated with the joint, and a bone-facing surface having a patient-adapted dimension based, at least in part, on current patient-specific information associated with the joint.
The invention also defines a way of providing the historical patient-specific information for subsequent treatment selection and/or designing. It includes receiving a first set of patient-specific information associated with a first state of at least a portion of the patient's anatomy, storing the first set in a library of historical patient-specific information, and providing at least a portion of the historical patient-specific information for selecting and/or designing a treatment for the joint.
Claims Coverage
The partial content includes three independent claims covering making an implant component using both current and historical patient-specific information, an implant component with different patient-adapted dimensions on joint-facing versus bone-facing surfaces, and providing and storing historical patient-specific information from prior joint states in a historical library. Across these independent claims, the coverage centers on sourcing historical information prior to the diseased or damaged state and using it in selecting or designing treatment or implant components.
Selecting and/or designing an implant component based on current and historical patient-specific information
A method of making an implant component for intended treatment of a diseased or damaged joint of a patient, comprising receiving current patient-specific information associated with the joint, receiving historical patient-specific information associated with the joint, and selecting and/or designing an implant component based, at least in part, on the current patient-specific information and the historical patient-specific information.
Joint-facing surface dimensioned using historical patient-specific information and bone-facing surface dimensioned using current patient-specific information
An implant component for treating a patient's joint, comprising a joint-facing surface having a patient-adapted dimension based, at least in part, on historical patient-specific information associated with the joint; and a bone-facing surface having a patient-adapted dimension based, at least in part, on current patient-specific information associated with the joint.
Providing historical patient-specific information for selecting and/or designing a treatment
A method of providing historical patient-specific information for selecting and/or designing a treatment for a diseased or damaged joint of a patient, comprising receiving a first set of patient-specific information associated with a first state of at least a portion of the patient's anatomy, storing the first set of patient-specific information in a library of historical patient-specific information, and providing at least a portion of the historical patient-specific information for selecting and/or designing a treatment for the joint, wherein the first set of patient-specific information comprises information obtained from the patient prior to the diseased or damaged state of the joint.
Collectively, the independent claims require receiving both current and historical patient-specific information and selecting or designing an implant component based on both, structuring the implant so that the joint-facing surface uses historical patient-specific information while the bone-facing surface uses current patient-specific information, and providing the historical patient-specific information by receiving a prior-state information set, storing it in a historical library, and providing it for later treatment selection or design.
