Abstract

Systems and methods for fitness tracking are provided. An exercise apparatus is in networked communication with a fitness tracking computing system. The configuration and location of movable components of the exercise apparatus is determined based on sensors. This information is provided to the fitness tracking computing system via networked communication.

Core Innovation

A networked fitness tracking computing system identifies an associated user account using a user identifier and an exercise apparatus identifier received from an exercise apparatus via network communications. Based on the associated user account, the system causes an exercise instruction from an exercise instruction database to be transmitted to the exercise apparatus and receives exercise event data transmitted by the exercise apparatus to update the associated user account.

The system uses user identification and linked user accounts to drive exercise instructions that correspond to an exercise apparatus and to track exercise event data for updating user accounts. The exercise instructions include instructed repetitions, instructed sets, an instructed weight setting, and instructed timing data, and can further include a configuration instruction for the exercise apparatus. In some implementations, a scheduling module schedules use of multiple exercise apparatus for multiple different users.

The exercise apparatuses include a movable member, at least one sensor that generates signals from movement of the movable member, and a communication module that sends and receives network communications with the fitness tracking computing system based on the signals. The document further describes a self-learning module that adapts a regimen based on performance metrics, data analytics using big data aggregation, maintenance-related notifications including predictive maintenance, and workflow reduction and export related to EMR reporting.

Claims Coverage

The independent claim is directed to a networked exercise instruction and exercise event data tracking system for updating user accounts based on received user and apparatus identifiers. The main inventive features include user-account identification, instruction transmission, event-data reception, and account updating; dependent claims refine instruction content, add scheduling for multiple users and apparatus, define sensor-based apparatus signaling and network communication modules, and specify categories of exercise-based data parameters included in stored data.

User and apparatus identifier-based user account identification

Upon receiving a user identifier and an exercise apparatus identifier from an exercise apparatus via network communications, identify the associated user account, wherein the exercise apparatus is one of the plurality of exercise apparatuses.

Exercise instruction transmission based on associated user account

Based on the associated user account, cause an exercise instruction from the exercise instruction database to be transmitted to the exercise apparatus.

Exercise event data reception from exercise apparatus

Receive exercise event data transmitted by the exercise apparatus.

User account updating based on exercise event data

Update the associated user account based on the exercise event data.

Instructed repetitions, sets, weight setting, and timing data

The exercise instruction specifies one or more of instructed repetitions, instructed sets, an instructed weight setting, and instructed timing data.

Exercise apparatus configuration instruction

The exercise instruction provides a configuration instruction for the exercise apparatus.

Scheduling use of multiple exercise apparatus for multiple users

A scheduling module schedules use of multiple exercise apparatus for multiple different users.

Movable member sensing and network communication module

Each exercise apparatus includes a movable member, at least one sensor that generates signals from the movable member’s movement, and a communication module that sends and receives network communications with the fitness tracking computing system based on those signals.

Exercise-based data parameter categories

Exercise-based data includes information derived from one or more specified categories of parameters.

Across the independent claim and refinements described, the core coverage ties user/account identification to apparatus-specific exercise instructions, receives exercise event data from the apparatus, and updates the corresponding user account. Dependent features specify instruction components, add scheduling for multiple users and apparatus, and define apparatus sensing and communication, including specified parameter categories for stored exercise-based data.
