Abstract
The present subject matter relates to a personalized weight management program incorporating dynamic feedback control using a validated mathematical model of metabolism and weight change. In general, the subject matter provides a system for repeated monitoring of one or more parameters such as, for example, body weight, physical activity, diet, eating behavior, or various other physiological and behavioral measurements, and using the parameter(s) to calculate an objective and personalized measure of adherence to a prescribed intervention, iteratively update mathematical model parameters, and adjust the prescribed intervention based on revised model predictions. Such a dynamic feedback control methodology can improve adherence to weight management interventions and result in greater weight loss and improved weight maintenance. The present subject matter also relates to a novel, cost-effective, weight management tool that could be widely disseminated through the internet and mobile computing platforms.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a personalized weight management system that incorporates dynamic feedback control using a validated mathematical model of metabolism and weight change. The system enables repeated monitoring of one or more parameters such as body weight, physical activity, diet, eating behavior, or various other physiological and behavioral measurements. These parameters are used to calculate an objective and personalized measure of adherence to a prescribed intervention, iteratively update mathematical model parameters, and adjust the intervention based on revised model predictions.
The system addresses a deficiency in existing weight management programs where personalization and feedback are limited or lacking. Traditional approaches often provide vague or erroneous information regarding caloric deficits and do not account for individual differences in metabolism or physiological adaptations during weight change. By using personalized mathematical models that dynamically update based on measured data, the invention provides accurate quantitative prescriptions and feedback to improve adherence, facilitate greater weight loss, and enhance weight maintenance.
Claims Coverage
The patent includes two main independent claims relating to a personalized weight management system and a method for monitoring and managing body weight. These claims cover system components, data management, mathematical modeling, and dynamic feedback control.
Personalized weight management system with dynamic model updating
A system comprising at least one processor and a database storing weight management records and personalized mathematical metabolism models for individuals. The system receives current body weight data, retrieves the corresponding personal metabolism model, calculates new expected weight parameters, compares these to expected values to determine adherence to an intervention, and generates feedback to achieve desired body weight.
Method for personalized dynamic weight management using mathematical modeling
A method involving receiving current body weight data, retrieving a personal metabolism model from a database, calculating new expected weight parameters, comparing these to expected parameters to assess adherence with a defined intervention program, and generating feedback to achieve desired body weight.
The independent claims focus on using personalized mathematical models of metabolism dynamically updated with current physiological data to assess adherence and guide interventions, with system and method claims covering the computing and feedback architecture to manage body weight effectively.
Stated Advantages
Improved adherence to weight management interventions through objective and personalized feedback.
Greater weight loss and improved weight maintenance by dynamically adjusting prescribed interventions based on updated model predictions.
A cost-effective, widely disseminable weight management tool suitable for internet and mobile computing platforms.
Documented Applications
Personalized weight loss and weight maintenance programs.
Monitoring and management of a group of individuals’ weights using personalized models.
Web-based or mobile computing platforms to deliver feedback and intervention adjustments.
