Abstract

Provided are a system, method and device for determining one or more physiological parameters of a person.

The invention provides a method of determining a fitness of a person by monitoring a heart rate, a respiration rate and an activity level of the person with an external, body-worn sensor device. The sensor device stores data of the heart rate, the respiration rate and the activity level in a memory of the sensor device. After determining that the activity level of the person is above the first threshold for the first predetermined time period, the sensor device determines that the activity level of the person is below a second threshold for a second predetermined time period. For treadmill-based fitness determination, the method further stores data of a known test including data of a time between increments in an incline of the treadmill and a speed of the treadmill. The aerobic capacity and anaerobic threshold are determined using the stored treadmill test data, including determining aerobic capacity based on treadmill speed and treadmill incline, and determining anaerobic threshold by identifying an inflection point in respiration-rate data and, in some cases, identifying the treadmill speed and treadmill incline when the respiration rate reaches the identified inflection point.
