Abstract

Systems and methods for evaluating and displaying an impact. A computer implemented method for interacting with a sports impact sensing and reporting system. The computer implemented method receives sensor data from one or more player modules configured to detect a force experienced by a player. A user interface is configured to graphically display a model of the received sensor data generated based on acceleration and rotational information within the received sensor data, a magnitude of the received sensor data, and a plotted representation of the received sensor data. Assessment tools are presented for a caregiver to assess the player for a medical condition. The received sensor data and a result of the presented medical assessment are stored.

Core Innovation

The invention is directed to a computer implemented method that receives sensor data from a player module comprising a mouth guard configured to detect an impact experienced by a head of a player. The method generates a user interface configured to graphically present on a display a representation of the sensor data and presents further information on the display related to a history of head impact events of the player and an indication of whether the mouth guard is positioned within a mouth of the player.

In the disclosed system, a computer system includes a processor, a display, and memory containing stored programming instructions. The processor receives player impact information related to an impact parameter for a head of a player, where the impact information is obtained by a mouth guard that includes a module for detecting whether the mouth guard is in the mouth of the player, and presents on the display a representation of the player impact information and an indication of whether the mouth guard is in the mouth of the player.

The disclosure further encompasses presenting head impact information in a graphical manner that can include a history of head impact events, with additional display context and presentation logic based on stored parameters. The system can present representations of head impact events over time and indicate whether the mouth guard is in the mouth, and it can support interactive assessment information for recording user-entered responses.

Claims Coverage

The partial content identifies two independent claims. Across them, the inventive features focus on receiving mouth-guard obtained head impact information and presenting graphical representations together with an indication of mouth-guard presence, with one claim also including a history of head impact events.

Mouth-guard sensor data display with mouth-position indication

Receiving sensor data from a player module comprising a mouth guard configured to detect an impact experienced by a head of a player; generating a user interface configured to graphically present on a display a representation of the sensor data; and presenting further information on the display related to a history of head impact events of the player and an indication of whether the mouth guard is positioned within a mouth of the player.

Computer system presentation of mouth-guard impact information

A computer system comprising a processor, a display, and memory containing stored programming instructions operable by the processor to cause the processor to receive player impact information related to an impact parameter for a head of a player, the impact information being obtained by a mouth guard, the mouth guard having a module for detecting whether the mouth guard is in the mouth of the player; and present on the display a representation of the player impact information and an indication of whether the mouth guard is in the mouth of the player.

Both independent claims are centered on presenting mouth-guard-derived head impact information with a display indication of whether the mouth guard is positioned in the mouth, with one claim framed as a computer implemented method that additionally presents a history of head impact events.

Stated Advantages

Graphically present a representation of sensor data on a display.

Present further information related to a history of head impact events of the player.

Provide an indication of whether the mouth guard is positioned within a mouth of the player.

Present on the display a representation of player impact information together with an indication of whether the mouth guard is in the mouth of the player.

Documented Applications

Sports head-impact sensing and reporting using a mouth guard player module with display-based presentation of head impact history and mouth-guard positioning.

Sideline presentation of player head impact information for a plurality of players on a team with graphical display of player impact information and associated context.
