Abstract
A low profile display enclosure system for enclosing a display device for viewing that protects the display device from environmental effects. The substantially sealed display enclosure comprises a rigid bezel, a substantially transparent front cover coupled to the bezel, and a rear cover assembly that may include a heat sink portion. A liquid organic coating is applied to portions of the display enclosure and cured in place in order to provide a protective surface.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a protectively enclosed flat panel display device for an outdoor environment, where a protective enclosure is substantially impervious to liquid ingress under ambient conditions encountered outdoors. The protective enclosure includes a rigid bezel defining a viewing region, a substantially transparent front cover coupled to the rigid bezel and covering the viewing region, and a rear cover assembly operatively connected to a rear portion of the rigid bezel.
A display enclosure is described with a bezel that defines a perimeter surface and an enclosure area having a display opening, together with a substantially transparent front cover coupled to the bezel and covering the display opening, and a rear cover assembly operatively coupled to the bezel. The rear cover assembly cooperates with the rigid bezel and the substantially transparent front cover to enclose a flat panel display device contained therein.
An organic coating disposed on an outer surface of the bezel forms a weather resistant seal over the bezel, and the display enclosure is resistant to liquid ingress in an outdoor viewing environment. The invention also includes preparing a substantially sealed protective enclosure for a display device by assembling a rigid bezel by joining a plurality of frame members, applying a liquid sealant on the outer peripheral surface, and curing the liquid sealant to form a protective coating on the rigid bezel.
Claims Coverage
The independently claimed subject matter includes three independent claims. Across these claims, the main inventive content is the combination of a rigid bezel with a transparent front cover and rear cover assembly for outdoor display protection, together with an organic sealant coating on the bezel that renders the enclosure substantially impervious to liquid ingress/precipitation.
Substantially impervious protective enclosure with rigid bezel and transparent front cover
A protective enclosure substantially impervious to liquid ingress under ambient conditions encountered in an outdoor environment, including a rigid bezel defining a viewing region, a substantially transparent front cover coupled to the rigid bezel and covering the viewing region, and a rear cover assembly operatively connected to a rear portion of the rigid bezel.
Sealant coating on the rigid bezel rendering imperviousness to liquid ingress
A sealant coating that coats at least a portion of the rigid bezel, the sealant coating rendering the rigid bezel substantially impervious to liquid ingress.
Display enclosure with bezel-defined display opening and rear cover assembly
A bezel defining a perimeter surface describing an enclosure area having a display opening, a substantially transparent front cover coupled to the bezel and covering the display opening, and a rear cover assembly operatively coupled to the bezel, the rear cover cooperating with the rigid bezel and the substantially transparent front cover to enclose flat panel display device contained therein.
Organic coating forming a weather resistant seal on the bezel
An organic coating disposed on an outer surface of the bezel and forming a weather resistant seal over the bezel, wherein the display enclosure is resistant to liquid ingress in an outdoor viewing environment.
Preparing a substantially sealed protective enclosure using liquid sealant and curing
A method of preparing a substantially sealed protective enclosure for a display device, comprising assembling a rigid bezel by joining a plurality of frame members with a display opening, applying a liquid sealant on the outer peripheral surface, curing the liquid sealant to form a protective coating on the rigid bezel, attaching a front cover to cover the display opening, and attaching a rear cover assembly to the rigid bezel, wherein the protective enclosure is substantially impervious to precipitation in an outdoor environment.
Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on an outdoor flat panel display enclosure defined by a rigid bezel, a substantially transparent front cover, and a rear cover assembly, combined with an organic coating disposed on the bezel to form a weather resistant seal that renders the enclosure substantially impervious to liquid ingress/precipitation.
Stated Advantages
The protective enclosure is substantially impervious to liquid ingress under ambient outdoor conditions.
The sealant coating renders the rigid bezel substantially impervious to liquid ingress.
The display enclosure is resistant to liquid ingress in an outdoor viewing environment.
The protective enclosure is substantially impervious to precipitation in an outdoor environment.
Documented Applications
Outdoor environment viewing of a flat panel display device using a protectively enclosed flat panel display device and a display enclosure resistant to liquid ingress and precipitation.
