Abstract
An integrated wound dressing system and method including a bandage and a self-contained receptacle that stores treatment material for the care and treatment of wounds. The treatment material is easily accessible and can be removed from the receptacle through an exit. The treatment material can then be used to control bleeding and/or clean the wound before dressing. The bandage may include a layer of plastic that acts as an occlusion barrier to reduce heat loss and maintain moisture levels at the wound site. The occlusion barrier also acts to prevent the passage of air into or out of the wound site. The bandage also includes fasteners that act to prevent unintentional unraveling and to secure the bandage during final packaging. These fasteners help facilitate the wrapping of amputations, stumps, and extremities. The integrated wound dressing system provides an all-in-one system for treating and dressing wounds and reduces the time required to do so.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to an integrated wound dressing system that includes an elongated bandage strip having a pocket contiguous to the bandage strip. The pocket includes a top wall with an interior surface and an exterior surface adapted for contact with a wound, and an opening. A treatment material is removably disposed in the interior of the pocket so that the treatment material is controllably removable from the pocket through the opening.
In the disclosed embodiments, the opening is covered by an overlapping flap, so the treatment material remains disposed in the pocket until controllably withdrawn through the opening. The treatment material is described as sterile treatment material and is removably disposed within the pocket in a folded form, including folded gauze configured so a first end abuts the opening to enable controllable removal from the pocket through the opening.
The disclosed wound dressing system further includes wound-contacting layered surface configurations, including an occlusion plastic layer described as maintaining moisture and heat and impeding air passage. Fasteners are included to prevent bandage unraveling and secure packaging, and a pressure member or pressure bar is described as providing additional compression for bleeding control.
Claims Coverage
The document includes three independent claims, each centered on an elongated bandage strip or integrated bandage system with a pocket containing removably disposed sterile treatment material that is controllably removable through a pocket opening. Across the independent claims, the main inventive features focus on the pocket opening or cover and the configuration of folded treatment material abutting the opening for controllable withdrawal.
Removably disposed treatment material controllably removable through pocket opening
A wound dressing system comprises an elongated bandage strip and a pocket contiguous to the bandage strip, where the pocket includes a top wall and an opening, and a treatment material is removably disposed in the interior of the pocket such that the treatment material is controllably removable from the pocket through the opening.
Overlapping flap covering the pocket opening
A wound dressing system wherein the pocket further includes an opening and an overlapping flap covers the opening, and the treatment material removably disposed in the interior of the pocket is controllably removable from the pocket through the opening.
Integrated wound dressing system with pocket near an end and folded gauze abutting the opening
An integrated wound dressing system comprises an elongated bandage suitable for dressing a wound with first and second ends, a pocket attached proximate one of the ends with an opening, and sterile treatment material disposed in the pocket, wherein the sterile treatment material is folded gauze and the folded gauze includes a first end abutting the opening such that the folded gauze can be controllably removed from the pocket through the opening.
Across the independent claims, the claim coverage centers on an integrated wound dressing system where folded sterile treatment material is removably disposed in a pocket, the pocket includes at least one opening, and the folded treatment material is configured, including a first end abutting the opening, for controllable removal through the opening. The independent claim set also specifically includes an overlapping flap covering the pocket opening in at least one independent claim.
Stated Advantages
Provides an integrated wound dressing system in which the treatment material can be controllably removed from the pocket through the opening.
Supports wound-contact use by configuring pocket exterior surface and/or wound pad structures adapted for contact with a wound.
Maintains moisture and heat and impedes air passage via an occlusion plastic layer.
Provides additional compression for bleeding control via a pressure member or pressure bar.
Documented Applications
Use methods for the wound dressing system including removing the treatment material from the receptacle or pocket, contacting the wound with the treatment material, and wrapping the bandage; optionally applying a pressure member via the treatment for bleeding control.
An integrated wound dressing system configured for dressing a wound with the pocket attached proximate an end of the bandage.
