Abstract

A medicament container, medicament dispensing kit and packaging process that minimizes exposure of the medication to oxygen to prevent degradation of the medication are disclosed.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a medicament dispensing kit for administering a predetermined dose of medication. The kit includes a medicament container containing the predetermined dose of medication, where the container includes a front end sealing assembly that seals the dose of medication in the container during storage. The front end sealing assembly includes a passageway that is operable to vent gases from the container during a container filling operation and operable to pass the predetermined dose of medication through the passageway during a medication dispensing operation.

The medicament container is received by a dispensing assembly that dispenses the predetermined dose of medication upon activation by a user. The kit further includes a gas absorbing component. The medicament container, the dispensing assembly, an inert gas, and the gas absorbing component are contained in a sealed package forming a sealed interior compartment flushed with inert gas to remove oxygen.

In additional disclosed embodiments, the medicament container includes a cartridge assembly with an opening and a movable sealing assembly in a first position to seal the opening, where the sealing assembly includes an end portion with a plurality of projections. A venting assembly vents gas from the cartridge assembly when the sealing assembly is in a second position, and upon activation the sealing assembly moves to the second position so that the plurality of projections contacts an interior surface of the dispensing assembly to form a liquid communication path that allows the predetermined dose to pass through the venting assembly, around the end portion, and through a space created between the projections and the interior surface.

Claims Coverage

Independent claims cover six core inventive features: a front end sealing assembly with a passageway for venting and dispensing, a user-activated dispensing assembly, inert-gas flushing with a gas absorbing component in a sealed interior compartment, a movable sealing assembly with projections forming a liquid communication path, a frictional engagement of a body portion with an inner container surface, and sealed package configurations containing the dispensing assembly and medicament container.

Vent and pass front end sealing passageway for container filling and dispensing

A medicament container includes a front end sealing assembly that seals the dose of medication in the container, wherein the front end sealing assembly has a passageway that is operable to vent gases from the container during a container filling operation and operable to pass the predetermined dose of medication there through from the container during a medication dispensing operation.

User-activated dispensing assembly receiving the medicament container

A dispensing assembly is configured to receive the medicament container therein and dispenses the predetermined dose of medication upon activation by a user.

Sealed interior compartment flushed with inert gas plus a gas absorbing component

A sealed package forms a sealed interior compartment flushed with an inert gas to remove oxygen, wherein the sealed interior compartment contains the medicament container, the dispensing assembly, the inert gas, and the gas absorbing component.

Movable sealing assembly with projections forming a liquid communication path

A movable sealing assembly is operative in a first position to seal the opening in a cartridge assembly and includes an end portion having a plurality of projections, and on activation the sealing assembly moves to a second position so the plurality of projections contacts an interior surface of the dispensing assembly to form a liquid communication path allowing the predetermined dose to pass through a venting assembly, around the end portion, and through a space created between the projections and the interior surface of the dispensing assembly.

Front end sealing assembly frictionally engages inner container surface

A front end sealing assembly has a body portion that frictionally engages an inner surface of the container, with a passageway formed in a portion of an exterior surface of the body portion, the passageway operable to vent gases during a container filling operation and operable to pass the predetermined dose of medication there through during a medication dispensing operation.

Sealed package interior compartment containing dispensing assembly and medicament container

A sealed package forms a sealed interior compartment having the dispensing assembly and the medicament container with the predetermined dose of medication located therein.

The claims collectively define a medicament dispensing kit that vents gases during filling, passes a predetermined dose during dispensing, uses user activation, and is packaged in a sealed interior compartment flushed with inert gas and containing a gas absorbing component. Additional coverage includes a movable sealing assembly with projections that create a liquid communication path and sealed-package embodiments containing the dispensing assembly and medicament container.
