Abstract

An apparatus and method for reconstruction of anatomical structure using Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) imaging. The apparatus includes at least a processor and a memory communicatively connected to the at least a processor configured to receive first image data corresponding to a first sweep of the at least a transducer from the TEE probe, generate, using a 3D reconstruction model, at least a 3D model representative of the at least a structure, as a function of image data, receive second image data corresponding to a second sweep of the at least a transducer from the TEE probe, refine, using the 3D reconstruction model, the at least a 3D model as a function of the second image data, identify, using the at least a processor, a confidence score of a refined 3D model, and display, using a graphical user interface of a downstream device, the refined 3D model and the confidence score.

Core Innovation

The disclosed apparatus and method reconstruct an anatomical structure in three dimensions using Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) imaging. The system captures ultrasound image data via a TEE probe transducer, segments the structure in image frames, and determines transducer orientation from probe position data. It constructs an initial 3D model from the segmented image data and orientation, then iteratively refines the model using successive video frames from a second sweep and identifies a confidence score.

A graphical user interface of a downstream device displays the refined 3D model and the confidence score. Described implementations include machine-learning reconstruction, statistical shape models, and scalar 3D field or point-cloud representations. Because the background section is omitted, the problem being solved is not explicitly described in patent.

Claims Coverage

The independent apparatus and method claims cover five inventive features directed to TEE-based 3D reconstruction across multiple sweeps, confidence scoring, iterative refinement, and display of the resulting model.

Acquiring TEE image data

The apparatus and method use a TEE probe transducer to capture ultrasound signal data and generate image data of a structure of a subject, including first image data corresponding to a first sweep and second image data corresponding to a second sweep.

Segmenting image frames and determining transducer orientation

A segmentation algorithm segments the structure in each frame of the image data, and the 3D reconstruction model determines transducer orientation based on probe position data obtained from the transducer.

Constructing a first 3D model

The apparatus and method construct a first 3D model of the structure as a function of segmented image data and the orientation of the transducer.

Iteratively refining the model and identifying a confidence score

The first 3D model is iteratively refined using successive video frames of the second image data to generate a refined 3D model, and a confidence score of the refined 3D model is identified.

Displaying the refined model and confidence score

A graphical user interface of a downstream device displays the refined 3D model and the confidence score.

The independent claims cover both an apparatus and a method that construct and iteratively refine a 3D anatomical model from TEE image data, then display the refined model with a confidence score.
