Abstract
Disclosed are systems and methods for automatically porting respiratory therapy settings to a new respiratory therapy device. Currently, when a patient replaces receives a replacement respiratory therapy device, the prescription settings must be manually ported. Accordingly, the inventors have developed technology to automatically, port, translate, and validate therapy settings and modes to a replacement respiratory therapy device.
Core Innovation
The described systems and method port prescription therapy settings between respiratory therapy devices. They use a patient account ID and a hardware identifier or serial number associated with a device to retrieve settings from a prescription server, validate the device association, and store or send the settings to a destination device memory. The settings may be translated to account for differences between device models.
The description identifies porting settings to replacement or additional devices as the subject matter. It also describes safeguards and pre-port checks that may deny a transfer and flag a patient for follow-up based on prescription age, patient changes, therapy-quality indicators, or oximetry data. Stored settings may further be limited to a temporary session.
Claims Coverage
The three independent claims define three inventive features covering two systems and one method for retrieving, validating, and transferring prescription therapy settings between respiratory therapy devices.
Device-to-device settings transfer using a validated hardware identifier
The system receives a request to port settings from a first respiratory therapy device to a second, along with a patient account ID and device hardware identifiers, requests settings from a prescription server, receives them if the first device identifier is validated, and stores them in memory of the second device.
Settings transfer with patient and device records and serial-number validation
The system uses a prescription database and a patient database, receives an account ID and a device serial number, retrieves the associated prescription therapy settings if the serial number is validated, and stores the settings in the respiratory therapy device.
Prescription-server retrieval and delivery after account and serial-number validation
The method receives a porting request containing a patient account ID and device serial number at a prescription server, queries a prescription database for settings, determines whether the serial number is validly associated with the account ID, and sends the settings to the respiratory therapy device if validated.
The independent claims cover system-based and server-based approaches to porting prescription therapy settings, using patient and device identifiers to retrieve settings and validate their association before storage or delivery.
Stated Advantages
Not explicitly described in patent.
Documented Applications
Porting prescription therapy settings to a replacement, additional, or destination respiratory therapy device, with settings retrieved from a prescription server and stored on the receiving device.
Storing transferred settings for a temporary or single usage session, including a described scenario involving a device associated with a hotel stay.
