Abstract

Methods, devices and system for determining fasting glucose level information and post-prandial glucose level information for diagnosing pre-diabetic and diabetic conditions based on monitored glucose measurements are provided.

Core Innovation

The invention provides a system and method for diagnosing impaired glucose tolerance using continuous in vivo glucose sensor signals collected during a meal start time of day period. A meal start time is derived by retrieving the meal start time of day period and identifying a delivery time within that period from data received from an insulin delivery device, then determining a potential meal start time using the glucose data and setting the meal start time based on correlation between the delivery time and the potential meal start time.

After setting the meal start time, the invention determines a pre-meal glucose parameter based on glucose data in a first predetermined period before the meal start time and determines a post-meal glucose parameter based on glucose data in a second predetermined period following the meal start time. A postprandial glucose metric is determined based on the pre-meal glucose parameter and the post-meal glucose parameter, and diagnosis information indicating impaired glucose tolerance is then determined using the postprandial glucose metric.

The invention outputs the diagnosis information on a user interface in communication with the processors, wherein the diagnosis information comprises a median glucose level or a maximum glucose level based on the glucose data in the second predetermined period. The approach supports determination of a potential meal start time from glucose data and defining the diagnosis output using glucose-derived statistics while anchoring timing to insulin delivery device data.

Claims Coverage

The partial content includes three independent claims (system, computer-readable storage media, and method) that share the same core inventive workflow: deriving a meal start time within a meal start time-of-day period from an insulin delivery device and glucose data, computing pre- and post-meal glucose parameters, determining a postprandial glucose metric, and diagnosing impaired glucose tolerance with glucose-derived outputs such as a median glucose level or a maximum glucose level. Across the independent claims, the inventive features are centered on the timing correlation to the meal start and the use of pre-/post-meal glucose metrics for diagnosis.

Meal start derivation from insulin delivery device and glucose data for impaired glucose tolerance

retrieving, from a storage unit, a meal start time of day period; identifying a delivery time within the meal start time of day period based on data received from an insulin delivery device; receiving glucose data collected by the in vivo glucose sensor during the meal start time of day period; determining a potential meal start time within the meal start time of day period using the glucose data; setting the meal start time as the potential meal start time when the delivery time correlates with the potential meal start time; determining a pre-meal glucose parameter based on the glucose data in a first predetermined period before the meal start time; determining a post-meal glucose parameter based on the glucose data in a second predetermined period following the meal start time; determining a postprandial glucose metric based on the pre-meal glucose parameter and the post-meal glucose parameter; determining diagnosis information indicating impaired glucose tolerance using the postprandial glucose metric; and outputting the diagnosis information on a user interface in communication with the one or more processors

In vivo glucose sensing coupled to sensor electronics communicating glucose data

an in vivo glucose sensor comprising a portion configured to be placed in fluid contact with a bodily fluid of a user under a skin surface to generate signals indicative of glucose levels; sensor electronics coupled to the in vivo glucose sensor and configured to be placed on the skin surface, wherein the sensor electronics are configured to communicate glucose data; one or more processors in communication with the sensor electronics; and one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media comprising instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause one or more components of the system to perform operations comprising the impaired glucose tolerance diagnosis workflow

Diagnosis output based on median glucose level or maximum glucose level in the second predetermined period

outputting the diagnosis information on a user interface in communication with the one or more processors, wherein the diagnosis information comprises a median glucose level or a maximum glucose level based on the glucose data in the second predetermined period

Across the independent claims, the coverage emphasizes a shared inventive concept of diagnosing impaired glucose tolerance by correlating a meal start time derived from insulin delivery device timing with a potential meal start time derived from glucose data, then computing pre-meal and post-meal glucose parameters to form a postprandial glucose metric used to determine diagnosis information. The diagnosis information is output on a user interface and includes a median glucose level or a maximum glucose level based on glucose data in the second predetermined period.
