Abstract
An infusion pump system and method with multiple drug library editor source capability including: an infusion pump system having a first drug library editor operable to generate a first drug library; a second drug library editor operable to generate a second drug library; and an infusion pump operable to connect to either one of the first drug library editor and the second drug library editor, the infusion pump having an operational drug library being one of the first drug library received from the first drug library editor and the second drug library received from the second drug library editor. The first drug library editor is one of a dedicated drug library editor and an enterprise drug library editor, and the second drug library editor is the other of the one of the dedicated drug library editor and the enterprise drug library editor.
Core Innovation
The invention describes an infusion pump for selectable use with a drug library generated by either a dedicated drug library editor or an enterprise drug library editor. The pump stores the selected library as its operational drug library, and its flow controller controls the fluid driver in accordance with that library. The summary describes use of the pump with different editor sources and deployments.
The operational drug library includes a configuration setting that indicates where the pump accepts the next drug library. The summary describes source selection at the pump, editor, or medication management unit. The stated purpose is to support pump use across home, smaller-care, and enterprise settings without replacing the pump; the background section and its description of the problem are not included in the provided content.
Claims Coverage
The provided claims identify one independent claim, claim 1, which recites four inventive features.
Selection of an operational drug library
The memory receives a selection of either the first drug library from the first editor or the second drug library from the second editor as the operational drug library. The editors are respectively a dedicated drug library editor and an enterprise drug library editor.
Control of the fluid driver
The flow controller controls the fluid driver in accordance with the received operational drug library.
Configuration setting for the next drug library
The operational drug library comprises a configuration setting that indicates where to accept a next drug library corresponding to one of the first and second drug library editors.
Editor deployment and library selection refinements
Dependent claims specify a dedicated editor on a local computer, an enterprise editor on a remotely connectable medication management unit, and selection of a drug library through the user interface of the pump.
Claim 1 covers an infusion pump that stores a selected library from either a dedicated or enterprise editor, controls fluid delivery according to that library, and uses a configuration setting to identify where to accept the next library. Dependent claims specify editor deployments and user-interface selection.
Stated Advantages
Supports seamless pump use across home, smaller-care, and enterprise settings without replacing the pump.
Reduces inventory and capital costs.
Documented Applications
Use of the infusion pump across home, smaller-care, and enterprise settings.
