Abstract
A medical device providing a combination of thermal and DVT therapies to a patient. The components, arrangement of components, function of the device as a whole, and methods of use of the device are all devised to maximize therapeutic effectiveness. Effectiveness in this context is measured by the ability to provide a controlled application of the recommended thermal treatment including time, temperature, compression, and number of cycles with specified cycle duration.
Core Innovation
The invention describes a therapeutic thermal compression device comprising a temperature system, a compression system, and a control system. The temperature system includes a heating and/or cooling assembly with an upper plate and a lower plate, and at least one thermoelectric module (TEM), where a first TEM is interposed between the upper and lower plate. The device further includes a radiator portion separate from the temperature system and connected to a fluid tank.
A fluid pump portion is connected with the fluid tank, and a liquid is circulated through the radiator portion and the temperature system without passing through the fluid tank. The liquid is heated or cooled by the first TEM by passing the liquid through the heating and/or cooling assembly of the temperature system. In the expanded form, the heating and/or cooling assembly includes an upper, a center, and a lower plate with TEM interposed between the upper and center plates and between the center plate and the lower plate.
The control system provides control of the therapeutic thermal compression device, including a touch-screen interface. The device is characterized as delivering heating and/or cooling via TEM while also providing compression therapy through a separate compression system. The temperature system and compression system are jointly controlled through the control system.
Claims Coverage
The partial content provides three independent claims. Each independent claim centers on a therapeutic thermal compression device with a temperature system that uses thermoelectric modules and a separate radiator connected to a fluid tank while circulating liquid does not pass through the fluid tank, together with a control system, including a touch-screen interface in one claim.
Separate radiator and TEM-heated or cooled liquid circulation without passing through the fluid tank
A temperature system with a heating and/or cooling assembly having an upper and a lower plate and at least one thermoelectric module (TEM), with a radiator portion separate from the temperature system and connected to a fluid tank, a fluid pump portion connected with the fluid tank, a liquid circulated through the radiator portion and the temperature system without passing through the fluid tank, and heating or cooling of the liquid by the first TEM by passing the liquid through the heating and/or cooling assembly.
Upper, center, and lower plate TEM arrangement with touch-screen control
A temperature system comprising a heating and/or cooling assembly having an upper, a center, and a lower plate, and two or more thermoelectric module (TEM) with at least one TEM interposed between the upper and center plates and at least another TEM interposed between the center plate and the lower plate, a separate radiator portion connected to a fluid tank with a fluid pump portion, a liquid circulated through the radiator portion and the temperature system without passing through the fluid tank, heated or cooled by the TEM, wherein the control system further comprises a touch-screen interface.
TEM located between upper and lower plate with separate radiator and non-through-fluid-tank circulation
A temperature system comprising a heating and/or cooling assembly having an upper plate, a lower plate, and at least one thermoelectric module (TEM) located between the upper and lower plate, a radiator portion separate from the temperature system and heating/cooling assembly and connected to a fluid tank, a fluid pump portion connected with the fluid tank, a liquid circulated through the radiator portion and the temperature system without passing through the fluid tank, and heating or cooling of the liquid by the TEM by passing the liquid through the heating and/or cooling assembly.
Across the independent claims, the main inventive thrust is the combination of a therapeutic thermal compression device with a TEM-based temperature system and a separate radiator portion connected to a fluid tank while the circulated liquid does not pass through the fluid tank, plus control through a control system including a touch-screen interface in one independent claim and specific plate/TEM spatial arrangements in other independent claims.
