Abstract
Apparatus and methods for an implant are provided. The implant may have a constrained configuration and a relaxed configuration. The implant may include a strut having an end that may be captured by a hub and may define a reference angle in the relaxed configuration. The implant may include a swivel body that may engage a shaft of a delivery cable and may be rotated through the reference angle. The apparatus may include a pusher catheter to push the implant. The delivery cable may engage the implant. The apparatus may include gauge handle that may include a force gauge to indicate the presence of a force acting on the implant. The apparatus may include a bushing that may be fixed to an end of a pusher catheter. The bushing may move along a delivery catheter lumen and may guide the implant to a keyed position at the bushing.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to an implant for a heart chamber that includes a constrained configuration and a relaxed configuration. The implant includes a hub and a strut having an end that is captured by the hub, and in the relaxed configuration the strut end defines a reference angle.
The implant further includes a swivel body configured to engage a shaft of a delivery cable. The swivel body is rotated through the reference angle using the reference angle defined by the hub-captured strut end in the relaxed configuration.
The delivery system architecture includes a pusher catheter, a delivery catheter/delivery cable, and a hub/hinge-block geometry that supports constrained/relaxed deployment. The document also describes hinge block segments with T-shaped slots and T-shaped terminus geometry, terminals, and an axis of rotation for a swivel body that enables controlled movement of the implant components during loading, deployment, repositioning, and recapture.
The documented features further include retention after deployment, including a constrained/relaxed mechanical arrangement that maintains component relationships when the shaft is withdrawn and an access hole is closed. The delivery system description also includes a delivery-cable predetermined failure region configured to protect tissue, and a positioner catheter with a snare interface for positioning and recapture.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim identifies inventive features focused on a heart-chamber implant with constrained and relaxed configurations, a hub-captured strut that defines a reference angle in the relaxed configuration, and a delivery-cable shaft-engaging swivel body that rotates through the reference angle. Dependent claims further refine the hinge/hub/swivel structure and kinematic constraints, and define retention and delivery-interface features.
Heart-chamber implant with constrained and relaxed configurations
An implant for a heart chamber has a constrained configuration and a relaxed configuration.
Hub-captured strut defining a reference angle in the relaxed configuration
A hub and a strut having an end that is captured by the hub; in the relaxed configuration, defines a reference angle.
Swivel body engaging a delivery-cable shaft and rotated through the reference angle
A swivel body configured to engage a shaft of a delivery cable and be rotated through the reference angle.
T-shaped terminus pivoting relative to hub-relative T-shaped slots
Each T-shaped terminus pivots at least 90° within a corresponding T-shaped slot relative to the hub’s central axis.
Swivel body axis of rotation relative to a hinge block
A swivel body that defines an axis of rotation with respect to a hinge block and allows the swivel body to rotate 360° about that axis.
Hinge-block gap geometry with rectangular recess, cylindrical cavity, and flared opening
A hinge block surrounds a cylindrical shape and forms a gap into the hub interior, where the gap has a rectangular recess, a cylindrical cavity extending from the recess, and a flared opening extending from the cylindrical cavity.
Flared opening receiving a positioner catheter snare interface
A flared opening configured to receive a positioner catheter so that a snare of an implant delivery device extends through it.
Swivel-body retention after deployment when withdrawing the shaft
After deployment, withdrawing the shaft from a patient, and closing an access hole, the swivel body remains retained by the hub.
Overall claim coverage centers on a heart-chamber implant having constrained and relaxed configurations, where a hub-captured strut defines a reference angle and a swivel body engages and rotates through that reference angle via a delivery cable shaft. Dependent claim refinements further specify hinge-block and T-slot/terminus geometry, swivel axis and rotation constraints, flared opening reception for a positioner catheter/snare, and retention of the swivel body after deployment with shaft withdrawal and access-hole closure.
