Abstract
A dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo article having a plurality of fibrous elements. The fibrous elements contain one or more polymeric structurants; one or more cationic polymers, a surfactant system, and two or more salts that include an inorganic salt and an organic salt. The plurality of fibrous elements are intertangled or otherwise associated with one another to form the fibrous article. The present invention provides a dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo articles having an adequate strength during manufacturing while not slowing down the dissolution of the structure during usage.
Core Innovation
The patent describes dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo articles comprising a plurality of fibrous elements that are intertangled or otherwise associated with one another. The fibrous elements include polyvinyl alcohol as a polymeric structurant together with one or more cationic polymers. The resulting solid article is formulated so that it can dissolve under hand dissolution evaluation while maintaining adequate manufacturing strength.
The fibrous shampoo article further includes a sulfate-free surfactant system comprising a glutamate surfactant and an alaninate surfactant. In addition, the formulation includes a two-salt system comprising an inorganic salt component and an organic salt component. The inorganic salt is sodium chloride present at less than 5% by weight on a dry article basis, and the organic salt is sodium lactate present in the specified range.
The material composition is defined by component ranges for polyvinyl alcohol, cationic polymer selection, surfactant system presence, and total salt composition including sodium chloride and sodium lactate. The patent also describes use of specific cationic polymers selected from Polyquaternium-6, Polyquaternium-7, Polyquaternium-10, cationic guars, or mixtures thereof, and includes multiple component options and testing thresholds to balance fiber spinnability and hand dissolution performance.
Claims Coverage
The partial content provides one independent claim directed to a dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo article, with multiple dependent claims refining specific material selections and a hand dissolution performance limitation. The independent claim includes 5 main inventive features in combination: polyvinyl alcohol content, cationic polymer selection and level, a sulfate-free glutamate and alaninate surfactant system, a two-salt system defined by limited sodium chloride plus sodium lactate, and intertangled fibrous elements forming the fibrous article.
Polyvinyl alcohol content in a dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo article
A dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo article comprising intertangled fibrous elements, wherein the article comprises from about 1% to about 50%, by weight on a dry article basis, of polyvinyl alcohol.
Cationic polymer selection and level
The article comprises from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight on a dry article basis, of one or more cationic polymers chosen from Polyquaternium-6, Polyquaternium-7, Polyquaternium-10, cationic guars, or a combination mixtures thereof.
Sulfate-free glutamate and alaninate surfactant system
The article comprises from about 20% to about 70%, by weight on a dry article basis, of a surfactant system comprising a glutamate surfactant and an alaninate surfactant, wherein the surfactant system is free of sulfate-based surfactants.
Two-salt system with limited sodium chloride plus sodium lactate
The article comprises from about 5.5% to about 20%, by weight on a dry article basis, of at least two salts comprising sodium chloride wherein the composition comprises less than 5% by weight on a dry article basis of the sodium chloride, and from about 1% to about 18% by weight on a dry article basis of sodium lactate.
Intertangled fibrous elements forming the fibrous article
The plurality of fibrous elements are intertangled or otherwise associated with one another to form the fibrous article.
Overall, the independent claim requires intertangled fibrous elements forming a dissolvable solid fibrous shampoo article that combines polyvinyl alcohol and a specified cationic polymer level, a sulfate-free glutamate and alaninate surfactant system, and a two-salt system defined by limited sodium chloride plus sodium lactate.
