Abstract

A system for estimating greenhouse gas emission in an environment housing an animal population, the system comprising: one or more monitoring devices configured to monitor parameters of members of the animal population; a data repository comprising one or more records, each of the records (i) being associated with a respective member of the members, and (ii) including one or more parameters of the respective member as monitored by at least one of the monitoring devices over time; and a processing circuitry configured to: obtain at least a subset of the records, the subset being associated with a group of members of the animal population; determine one or more greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters based on the subset; estimate an amount of greenhouse gas emission in the environment utilizing the greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters; and perform an action utilizing the estimated amount of greenhouse gas emission in the environment.

Core Innovation

The disclosed system estimates greenhouse gas emission in an environment housing an animal population. The system includes one or more monitoring devices, each attached to a respective member of the animal population and configured to monitor parameters of the respective member over time. The system stores these monitored parameters in a data repository using two or more records, where each record is associated with a respective member and includes one or more monitored parameters.

Processing circuitry obtains at least a subset of the records associated with a group of given members. The processing circuitry derives one or more greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters based on a comparison of one or more monitored parameters across at least two members of the group. Using the greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters, the processing circuitry estimates an amount of greenhouse gas emission in the environment.

The processing circuitry then performs an action utilizing the estimated amount of greenhouse gas emission in the environment. In some cases, the action includes providing an estimated amount of greenhouse gas emissions to a user, and in some cases, the action includes suggesting greenhouse gas emission reduction actions for at least part of the animal population.

Claims Coverage

The document includes three independent claim categories: a system, a method, and a non-transitory computer readable storage medium. Across these independent claims, there are four main inventive features: attaching monitoring devices to individual animal members and recording monitored parameters over time, obtaining a subset of member-associated time-series records for a selected group, deriving greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters by comparing monitored parameters across at least two group members, and estimating greenhouse gas emission and performing an action using the estimate.

Member-attached monitoring devices and time-series record repository

one or more monitoring devices, each attached to a respective member of the animal population, and each configured to monitor parameters of the respective member; a data repository comprising two or more records, each associated with a respective member and including one or more monitored parameters of the respective member as monitored over time

Group-based comparison deriving greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters

obtain at least a subset of the records, the subset being associated with a group of given members; derive one or more greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters based on a comparison of one or more monitored parameters across at least two members of the group

Greenhouse gas emission estimation using derived affecting parameters

estimate an amount of greenhouse gas emission in the environment utilizing the greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters

Action performed utilizing the estimated greenhouse gas emission

perform an action utilizing the estimated amount of greenhouse gas emission in the environment

Non-transitory computer readable storage medium program code for estimating emissions with actions

computer readable program code executable by at least one processing circuitry to perform a method for estimating greenhouse gas emission in an environment housing an animal population, including obtaining a subset of records, deriving greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters, estimating greenhouse gas emission, and performing an action utilizing the estimated amount of greenhouse gas emission

Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on deriving greenhouse gas emission affecting parameters from comparisons of member-associated monitored parameters in a selected group, then estimating greenhouse gas emission and performing an action using that estimate.

Stated Advantages

Continuous objectivity of measurement compared to auditor-subjective approaches.

Benchmark/standard setting for setting benchmarks/standards/certification.

Decision support for stakeholders.

Documented Applications

Providing an estimated amount of greenhouse gas emissions to a user in an environment housing an animal population.
