Abstract

Disclosed herein is a test card including at least one fluid inlet port, at least one microchannel, and a plurality of target zones, where the test card is configured to perform a plurality of assays in the plurality of target zones. Also described herein is a method of using the test card to perform a plurality of assays on a fluid sample in the plurality of target zones.

Core Innovation

A disposable test card is disclosed for performing a plurality of assays using a microchannel system that fluidically couples at least one fluid inlet port to a plurality of target zones. The plurality of target zones enable analysis of different assays using the same single test card architecture.

The test card is configured to perform a plurality of assays in the plurality of target zones, including a plurality of different assays such that the test card is a single test card configured to simultaneously perform a combination of different assays. The plurality of target zones comprise at least two target zones in parallel and at least two target zones in series.

Different combinations of assay types are included, including nucleic acid amplification assay, immunoassay, ion selective assay, image cytometry assay, capacitance-based assay, fluorescence-based assay, and colorimetric-based assay. At least one target zone includes an analysis port configured so that at least one assay among the plurality of assays is analyzed.

Claims Coverage

The independent claim is directed to a single disposable test card architecture that performs multiple different assays simultaneously across multiple target zones using a microchannel coupling an inlet port to the target zones. The claim covers four inventive features enabling parallel and series target-zone arrangements and selecting from specified assay types.

Multi-assay test card with inlet-to-microchannel coupling

A test card comprising at least one fluid inlet port, a plurality of target zones, and at least one microchannel fluidically coupling the at least one fluid inlet port and the plurality of target zones.

Simultaneous combination of different assays using parallel and series target zones

The test card is configured to perform a plurality of assays in the plurality of target zones, wherein the plurality of assays comprise a plurality of different assays such that the test card is a single test card configured to simultaneously perform a combination of different assays, wherein the plurality of target zones comprise at least two target zones in parallel and at least two target zones in series.

Assay-type selection across nucleic acid amplification and other listed assay categories

The plurality of different assays include at least two of nucleic acid amplification assay, immunoassay, ion selective assay, and image cytometry assay.

Assay-type selection across capacitance, fluorescence, and colorimetric categories

The plurality of different assays include at least two of capacitance-based assay, fluorescence-based assay, and colorimetric-based assay.

Across the independent claim, the core coverage is a microfluidic test card that uses an inlet port and microchannel to distribute sample to multiple target zones arranged in parallel and series, enabling simultaneous combinations of different assay types chosen from the listed categories.
