Abstract

Embodiments are directed to portable infusion devices, systems, and methods of using the same for dispensing materials. In some cases, the devices, systems and methods may be used for infusing a material such as medicament, e.g., insulin, into a body in need thereof.

Core Innovation

The invention provides a portable infusion pump system that includes a portable infusion pump having a reservoir configured to contain a medicament and a pumping mechanism configured to deliver the medicament in the reservoir to a user. The system further includes a remote control device configured to remotely control the portable infusion pump, and the remote control device includes a display and at least one processor configured to receive a numerical value for a bolus calculation, calculate a bolus based at least in part on the numerical value, and display the calculated bolus adjacent the numerical value on the display.

The remote control device is configured to transmit an operating command to the portable infusion pump to cause the portable infusion pump to deliver the calculated bolus to the user. The disclosed remote control interactions can include presenting a numerical value entry flow in which displayed objects are selectable, and the numerical value is received after selection of one object. The input can be implemented using a touchscreen display with touch-selectable objects and a virtual numeric keypad after selecting an object.

The invention also includes delivery control and visualization concepts in the remote control device. While the calculated bolus is being delivered, the remote control device presents a selectable stop insulin object, and user selection triggers an operating command to stop delivery of the calculated bolus. The disclosure further includes display behaviors such as discrete bolus status indicator objects with appearance and color updates during delivery, and selectable objects that can associate the numerical value with user-relevant categories such as carbohydrates or blood glucose levels.

Claims Coverage

The provided set contains two independent claims. Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on remotely calculating and displaying a bolus from a numerical value and transmitting an operating command to a portable infusion pump, with optional refinement of user interface input, bolus visualization, and in-delivery stop control.

Remote bolus calculation with adjacent display and command transmission

A portable infusion pump system including a portable infusion pump with a reservoir and pumping mechanism, and a remote control device with a display and processor configured to receive a numerical value for a bolus calculation, calculate a bolus based at least in part on the numerical value, display the calculated bolus adjacent the numerical value, and transmit an operating command to the portable infusion pump to cause the portable infusion pump to deliver the calculated bolus to the user.

Non-transitory medium instructions for remote bolus calculation and command transmission

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause a device to receive a numerical value for a bolus calculation, calculate a bolus based at least in part on the numerical value, display the calculated bolus adjacent the numerical value on a display, and transmit an operating command to a portable infusion pump to cause the portable infusion pump to deliver the calculated bolus to the user.

The independent claims cover a remote-control architecture for bolus calculation and display, paired with transmission of an operating command to a portable infusion pump to deliver the calculated bolus, and a corresponding non-transitory computer-readable medium version of the same functionality.
