Abstract
The present invention allows for the creation of a biometrically secure environment that allows viewing, editing and sharing of confidential documents, or the like, in public places, without worrying that someone will see the contents. The invention provides privacy, for example for the purposes of reading documents, in a public environment while having the confidence that you are the only one able to read the document. Privacy may be achieved through methods of identification using biometric features, such as: face, iris or voice recognition. Verification that a real person is viewing the document may also be achieved by pulse recognition. In one embodiment, the screen will shut down when more than one person looks directly at the screen.
Core Innovation
The invention manages access to a display of a user device in a secure environment for viewing, editing, and sharing confidential documents in public. A detection device captures a field of view in proximity to the display, and a processor creates a user profile associated with a user and a file profile associated with a file. The user profile includes a plurality of biometric features associated with the user and a weight associated with each biometric feature.
Upon detecting a person in the field of view, the processor determines a first biometric feature of the person and calculates a confidence level using the first biometric feature together with the biometric features from the user profile and their associated weights. If the calculated confidence level exceeds a predetermined threshold, the person is identified as the authorized user for the file, and the display is activated to allow authorized-user functions. If the confidence level falls below the threshold, the processor requests an additional biometric feature and re-calculates the confidence level with additional biometric features until the threshold is exceeded or no more additional biometric features are available, in which case the user is not identified as the authorized user.
The invention further determines a number of faces in the field of view and, if the number of faces is greater than a threshold number of users, it blanks the application display, displays an alert, and prevents further interaction with the file until the number of faces is less than or equal to the threshold number of users. The system also uses liveness checks, including pulse recognition with dual cameras and other biometric modalities, and supports configurable secure profiles including optional pause security, continuous identification, and backup identification.
In addition, the invention describes encrypted biometric features and encrypted biometric vectors, where confidence computation occurs using homomorphic encryption without decrypting encrypted biometric inputs. It also outlines a cloud-based architecture, server-side confidence comparison, an offline mode with later sync/erasure, and additional controls such as screen blocking for video-chat authentication, screen-sharing alerting for logging, and audit/admin activity tracking.
Claims Coverage
The independent claims include a system, a method, and a computer program product for managing access to a user device display using weighted biometric confidence with activation/deactivation, plus a face-count threshold gating step. The inventive features center on weighted biometric feature confidence against an authorized-user file profile with iterative additional biometric feature requests, and display control, with dependent refinements for encryption, homomorphic comparison, and server-side confidence computation.
Biometric access with weighted confidence and file profile minimum confidence
creating a user profile associated with a user including a plurality of biometric features and a weight associated with each biometric feature; creating a file profile associated with a file including an authorized user, functions authorized on the file, and a minimum confidence level required for identification; determining a first biometric feature of a person and calculating a confidence level using the first biometric feature, the plurality of biometric features from the user profile, and the weight associated with each biometric feature; and comparing the calculated confidence level to a predetermined threshold to identify the person as the authorized user or not.
Iterative additional biometric feature requests until confidence threshold or no more additional features
if the calculated confidence level falls below the predetermined threshold, requesting the person to provide an additional biometric feature of the plurality of biometric features and re-calculating the confidence level with the additional biometric feature and the weight associated with the additional biometric feature until either the calculated confidence level exceeds the predetermined threshold or there are no more additional biometric features to be determined.
Display activation when authorized and deactivation when not authorized
if the person is identified as the authorized user, activating the display to allow the authorized user to perform the functions that the authorized user can perform on the file; and if the person is not identified as the authorized user, deactivating the display to prevent the person from performing the functions that the authorized user can perform on the file.
Face counting threshold with blanking display and alerting
determining a number of faces of people in the field of view and, if the number of faces is greater than a threshold number of users, blanking the application display on the device display, displaying an alert on the device display, and preventing further interaction with the file until the number of faces in the field of view is less than or equal to the threshold number of users.
Encryption of biometric features for server transmission and storage
encrypting the user profile biometric features before transmitting them to a server for storage and also encrypting the determined biometric features before transmitting them to the server.
Homomorphic encryption confidence calculation without decrypting biometric features
encrypting biometric features with homomorphic encryption and calculating confidence levels without decrypting the encrypted biometric features from a user profile or the encrypted determined biometric features.
Server-side confidence computation between stored biometric features and determined biometric features
calculating, on the server, confidence levels between stored biometric features and determined biometric features.
Authentication failure reasons display
displaying on the user device a list of possible reasons for authentication failure when the person is not verified as an authorized user.
Application content limitation to text, video, or other chatting
the file profile includes an application comprising text, video, or other chatting.
Across the independent claims, the core claim coverage is centered on weighted biometric confidence evaluation against a file profile with a minimum confidence level, iterative additional biometric feature requests when confidence is below threshold, and display activation versus deactivation. An additional gating step blanks the display and displays an alert when the number of faces exceeds a threshold, and dependent refinements add authentication-failure reasons display and secure biometric handling through encryption, homomorphic encryption, and server-side confidence computation, with an application content limitation to text/video/other chatting.
Stated Advantages
Activates the display to allow the authorized user to perform functions that the authorized user can perform on the file.
Deactivates the display to prevent a person who is not identified as the authorized user from performing the authorized-user functions.
Blanking the application display and preventing further interaction when too many faces are detected beyond a threshold number of users.
Displays an alert on the device display when the number of faces exceeds the threshold number of users.
