Abstract

An apparatus comprising a pump configured to deliver insulin, a processor, and a user interface including a color display. Color on the display can be used to bring a user's attention to a change in status of the device or a detected change in status of the patient.

Core Innovation

The described invention relates to an ambulatory infusion pump system that includes a user interface including a color display configured to display information to a user in a plurality of colors. The system further includes a memory configured to store parameters relating to treatment of the user with an ambulatory infusion pump, and a processor configured to control the information displayed on the color display. The processor receives information relating to a clinical status of the user and displays information relating to the clinical status on a portion of the color display in a first color.

The processor compares the information relating to the clinical status of the user to the parameters relating to treatment of the user upon receiving the information relating to clinical status of the user. After this comparison, the processor changes the information relating to the clinical status on the portion of the color display from the first color to a second color to indicate a change in the clinical status of the user. The clinical-status change can relate to an amount of active insulin in the user's body.

In another aspect, the processor displays information relating to the clinical status of the user on a portion of the color display in a first color, detects a change in the clinical status of the user, and changes the information relating to the clinical status from the first color to a second color to indicate the change. The disclosed color indication can be implemented as displaying text in a first color and changing the text to a second color when the clinical-status change is detected.

Claims Coverage

The independent claims cover four variants of an ambulatory infusion pump system that uses a color display to indicate clinical status changes, where the system either compares clinical-status information to stored treatment parameters or detects a clinical-status change directly, and where the clinical-status change can relate to an amount of active insulin in the user's body. Across the independent claims, there are a total of 5 main inventive features.

Color display for clinical status in a first and second color

A color display configured to display information relating to a clinical status of the user on a portion of the color display in a first color and change the information on the portion of the color display from the first color to a second color to indicate a change in the clinical status of the user.

Comparing received clinical-status information to stored treatment parameters

Receive information relating to a clinical status of the user, compare the information relating to the clinical status of the user to the parameters relating to treatment of the user upon receiving the information relating to clinical status of the user, and display information relating to the clinical status in a first color.

Detecting a change in clinical status

Display information relating to a clinical status of the user on a portion of the color display in a first color, detect a change in the clinical status of the user, and change the information relating to the clinical status from the first color to a second color to indicate the change.

Clinical-status change relates to an amount of active insulin

Wherein the change in clinical status of the user relates to an amount of active insulin in the user's body.

Displaying text relating to clinical status and changing text color

Display text relating to the clinical status of the user on a portion of the color display in a first color, detect a change in the clinical status of the user, and change the text relating to the clinical status from the first color to a second color to indicate the change.

Overall, the claim set centers on using a color display portion to indicate clinical-status changes by changing a first color to a second color, with either a comparison to stored treatment parameters or detection of a clinical-status change, and with clinical-status change optionally tied to an amount of active insulin in the user's body. Additional refinements specify how the color indication is represented, including text color.
