Abstract
Techniques for charting a medical event are disclosed. In one embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a system for charting a medical event, comprising a processor communicably coupled to a database and to a patient charting system. The processor may be configured to during the medical event: receive charting data from the patient charting system; query the database with the charting data to obtain additional data that is associated with at least some of the charting data; and send the additional data to the patient charting system to populate a patient chart during the medical event.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to an emergency medical services (EMS) charting and treatment system that includes a clinical device comprising a defibrillator and a patient monitor configured to monitor and provide treatment for a medical condition of a patient. The system further includes a web-based smartphone EMS charting application that generates an electronic chart for an EMS encounter between one or more caregivers and the patient, and displays, via an interactive user interface, a portion of the electronic chart comprising displayed fields and selectable tabs representing corresponding sets of fields.
Caregiver charting information is received as voice data captured by a voice recognition interface, where the voice data includes a name of a destination healthcare facility for the patient. The system identifies displayed fields based on the voice data and populates the electronic chart with the destination healthcare facility information, then queries a remote database using the destination healthcare facility information to retrieve second charting information, including address information for the destination healthcare facility and additional patient-specific information, and automatically populates one or more fields with at least a portion of the retrieved second charting information.
In response to receiving user input assigning a value to an encounter disposition field, the system assigns a default value to a third field and disables a particular selectable tab representing a set of fields disabled based on the user input. The system updates the displayed portion of the electronic chart to include the first charting information and a first portion of the additional patient-specific information while not including a second portion, and while the clinical device is being used to provide treatment, transmits at least a portion of patient-specific information to the clinical device based on the clinical device identification information so the transmitted portion modifies operation of the clinical device to operate at treatment parameters based on the patient-specific information.
The processor is configured to receive a request for the electronic chart from the destination healthcare facility and provide the electronic chart to the destination healthcare facility via a secure communications link.
Claims Coverage
The partial content includes one independent claim. It covers a web-based smartphone EMS charting application integrated with a defibrillator-equipped clinical device, where voice-captured caregiver input is used to query a remote database for destination and additional patient-specific information, dynamically update an electronic EMS encounter chart, transmit patient-specific information to the clinical device to modify treatment parameters, and securely provide the chart to the destination healthcare facility.
Web-based smartphone EMS charting and interactive display for an EMS encounter
A system with at least one processor configured to execute a web-based smartphone EMS charting application to generate an electronic chart for an EMS encounter between one or more caregivers and the patient, and to display via an interactive user interface a portion of the electronic chart comprising displayed fields and selectable tabs representing corresponding sets of fields.
Voice recognition based chart field population from destination facility name
The processor is configured to receive first charting information from the one or more caregivers as voice data captured by a voice recognition interface, where the first charting information comprises a name of a destination healthcare facility for the patient, identify at least one first displayed field based on the voice data, and populate the at least one first displayed field stored locally in memory with the first charting information.
Remote database querying to retrieve destination address and additional patient-specific information for automatic chart field population
The processor is configured to transmit via a networked connection to a remote database a query for second charting information stored in the remote database and based on the first charting information, receive the second charting information including address information for the destination healthcare facility and additional patient-specific information, and automatically populate at least one second displayed field with at least a portion of the second charting information.
Disabling selectable tabs and defaulting chart fields based on encounter disposition input
After receiving user input assigning a value to an encounter disposition field, the processor assigns a default value to a third field of the electronic chart and disables a particular selectable tab, where the disabled selectable tab represents a particular set of fields disabled based on the user input, and the processor displays an update of the displayed portion of the electronic chart including a first portion of the additional patient-specific information while excluding a second portion of the additional patient-specific information.
Transmission of patient-specific information to a defibrillator-equipped clinical device to modify treatment parameters
The system receives third charting information comprising identification information for the clinical device and receives fourth charting information comprising at least one of a patient age, patient gender, patient weight, patient treatment history, patient medical condition, or patient medication, and while the clinical device is being used to provide treatment, transmits at least a portion of the fourth charting information to the clinical device based on the third charting information, where the transmitted portion modifies operation of the clinical device to operate at treatment parameters based on the fourth charting information.
Secure provision of the electronic chart to the destination healthcare facility
The processor is configured to receive a request for the electronic chart from the destination healthcare facility and provide the electronic chart to the destination healthcare facility via a secure communications link.
Overall, the independent claim covers an EMS charting and treatment system that uses a web-based smartphone charting application to display and dynamically update an electronic EMS encounter chart populated using voice-captured destination facility information and remotely retrieved destination and patient-specific information, while also transmitting patient-specific information to the connected defibrillator/patient monitor so that operation is modified to operate at treatment parameters based on the patient-specific information, and securely providing the chart to the destination healthcare facility.
