Abstract
An air quality monitor connected to a server that can identify individual people as they move from room to room count the people in each room; the information is then used to determine each person's individual exposure to pollutants.
Core Innovation
The invention provides monitoring individual exposure to air pollution by using a plurality of air quality monitors in a plurality of locations. Each air quality monitor comprises a RF scanner and a radar scanner to detect at least one air pollutant while also detecting living humans in the vicinity. The radar scanner scans the vicinity, detects living humans, determines the number of living humans present, and records radar parameters associated with each living human including shape, size, movement patterns, and location.
The RF scanner detects RF signals in the vicinity of each air quality monitor to identify mobile devices and determine a distance between each mobile device and the air quality monitor. The method analyzes the radar parameters associated with each living human and the mobile devices identified by the RF scanner to determine which mobile devices are carried by which living humans. For each living human, the method forms a unique personal signature by combining the radar parameters and the mobile device identification when a mobile device is present, using only radar parameters when a mobile device is not present, or using mobile device identification when radar parameter information is not present.
The unique personal signature and a time stamp are transmitted to a server, where the signature is compared against stored unique personal signatures to identify a person. If the unique personal signature matches, the server identifies the person; if it does not match, the server stores the unique personal signature and creates an identifier for a new person. The server determines entrance and exit timestamps for each person using a first time and a second time, and calculates each person’s cumulative pollutant exposure based on air pollutant data received from each air quality monitor between the first time and the second time.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim covers a complete pipeline of radar detection of living humans, RF scanning for mobile devices, formation of a unique personal signature, server-side matching to identify persons, determination of entrance and exit timestamps, and server-side calculation of cumulative pollutant exposure. The dependent claims further refine same-room cross-monitor reconciliation, server-generated per-person logs over a predetermined interval, elimination of irrelevant features, regular-interval monitoring, and a human-input fallback when signature matching is ambiguous.
Radar and RF based detection for living humans and mobile devices
Using a plurality of air quality monitors to detect at least one air pollutant in a plurality of locations, wherein each air quality monitor comprises a RF scanner and a radar scanner; using the radar scanner to scan the vicinity, detect living humans, determine the number of living humans present, and record at least one radar parameter comprising shape, size, movement patterns, or location; and using the RF scanner to detect RF signals, identify mobile devices, and determine a distance between each mobile device and the air quality monitor.
Unique personal signature formation from radar parameters and mobile device identification
Analyzing the radar parameters associated with each living human and the mobile devices identified by the RF scanner to determine which mobile devices are carried by which living humans; for each living human where a mobile device is present, combining the radar parameters and the mobile device identification to form a unique personal signature; for each living human where a mobile device is not present, using the radar parameters to form a unique personal signature; and for each living human where radar parameter information is not present, using the mobile device identification to form a unique personal signature.
Server matching and person identification with new-person creation
Transmitting the unique personal signature and a time stamp to a server; comparing the unique personal signature with stored unique personal signatures; if the unique personal signature matches, identifying the person; and if the unique personal signature does not match any stored unique personal signature, storing the unique personal signature on the server and creating an identifier for a new person.
Entrance/exit timestamp determination and cumulative pollutant exposure calculation
Using the server to determine entrance and exit timestamps using a first time and a second time for each person associated with a unique personal signature; wherein the first time is the time the person entered the vicinity of an air quality monitor and the second time is the time the person exited the vicinity; and calculating each person’s cumulative pollutant exposure based on air pollutant data received from each air quality monitor between the first time and the second time.
Cross-monitor same-room signature reconciliation
Receiving a first unique personal signature and a second unique personal signature from a first air quality monitor and a second air quality monitor in the same room, identifying and comparing the signatures to determine whether they belong to the same person, and if they do, either combining the signatures into a new unique personal signature or deleting the second unique personal signature.
Server-generated per-person entry and exit logs over a predetermined interval
Generating, for each person, a log that records entry and exit times relative to at least one air quality monitor over a predetermined time interval.
Signature refinement by eliminating irrelevant features
Determining irrelevant features in the combined radar parameter or the mobile device identification and eliminating those irrelevant features from the unique personal signature.
Monitoring at regular intervals
Using at least one of the plurality of air quality monitors to perform the stated actions at regular intervals.
Human-input fallback for ambiguous same-person determination
Receiving human input indicating whether a first unique personal signature and a second unique personal signature correspond to the same person when the server cannot determine whether they belong to the same person.
Overall, the claims cover radar scanning of living humans, RF scanning to identify mobile devices and distances, formation of a unique personal signature from radar parameters and mobile device identification with presence-dependent combinations, server-side matching with new-person creation, determination of entrance and exit timestamps, and calculation of cumulative pollutant exposure from monitor data between those times, with dependent claims adding same-room cross-monitor reconciliation, server logs over a predetermined interval, elimination of irrelevant signature features, regular-interval monitoring, and a human-input fallback when the server cannot resolve whether two signatures correspond to the same person.
