Abstract

A drive mechanism for a medicament delivery device is presented having a base member with a guide track structure that includes a first track, a second track, a rotator base member having a first guide structure that runs in the first track, a rotator housing coaxially arranged with and configured to engage with the rotator base member, the rotator housing having a second guide structure arranged at a fixed distance from the first guide structure and configured to run in the second track, a rotation device configured to actuate the rotator housing, and a medicament container carrier configured to receive a medicament container, wherein the medicament container carrier is coaxially arranged relative to the rotator base member and the rotator housing, the rotator housing being configured to rotate relative to the medicament container carrier.

Core Innovation

The invention provides a drive mechanism for a medicament delivery device that uses a base member having a guide track structure with a first track and a second track. The second track includes an arced portion, a first straight portion, and a second straight portion, and a rotator base member includes a first guide structure configured to run in the first track.

A rotator housing is coaxially arranged with and configured to engage with the rotator base member, and the rotator housing includes a second guide structure arranged at a fixed distance from the first guide structure. The second guide structure is configured to run in the second track, such that actuation of the rotator housing causes the second guide structure to move along the second track while the first guide structure initially moves in a first direction and subsequently moves in a second direction opposite to the first direction.

The movement in the first direction causes initial linear movement of the medicament container carrier in the first direction, and movement in the second direction causes subsequent movement of the medicament container carrier in the second direction. Movement of the second guide structure causes rotation of the rotator housing, thereby enabling medicament delivery, including initial linear movement for auto-penetration and reverse linear movement for auto-withdrawal so the needle/cannula is not exposed before or after delivery.

Claims Coverage

The partial content includes two independent claims. Across these claims, the inventive features focus on a coaxial rotator housing engagement, first and second guide tracks with an arced portion and straight portions, and coordinated guide-structure motion that produces phased linear movement of a medicament container carrier together with rotation to enable medicament delivery.

Guide-track-defined phased motion of rotator and carrier

A base member having a guide track structure including a first track and a second track, wherein the second track has an arced portion, a first straight portion, and a second straight portion; and a first guide structure on a rotator base member configured to run in the first track, such that actuation causes the second guide structure to move along the second track while the first guide structure initially moves in a first direction and subsequently moves in a second direction opposite to the first direction, causing initial linear movement of the medicament container carrier in the first direction and subsequent linear movement in the second direction.

Coaxial rotator housing engagement with fixed-distance guide structures

A rotator housing coaxially arranged with and configured to engage with the rotator base member, the rotator housing having a second guide structure arranged at a fixed distance from the first guide structure and configured to run in the second track, wherein movement of the second guide structure causes rotation of the rotator housing, thereby enabling a medicament delivery.

Disjoint track arrangement producing opposing-direction phases

A drive mechanism where the base member comprises a first track and a second track configured as disjoint tracks, and where the movement of the rotator housing causes the second guide structure to move along the second track and the first guide structure to initially move in a first direction along the first track and subsequently move in a second direction opposite to the first direction, with the first-direction guide-structure movement causing initial linear movement of the medicament container carrier in the first direction and the second-direction guide-structure movement causing subsequent movement in the second direction.

Arced-to-straight second track geometry for medicament delivery with rotation

The second track has an arced portion, a first straight portion, and a second straight portion, wherein movement of the second guide structure causes rotation of the rotator housing and medicament delivery, with the medicament container carrier coaxially arranged relative to the rotator base member and the rotator housing and the rotator housing rotating relative to the medicament container carrier.

Both independent claims define a drive mechanism that coordinates a rotator housing and a medicament container carrier using guide tracks with an arced portion and straight portions, where opposing-direction movement of guide structures produces phased linear movement of the medicament container carrier together with rotation to enable medicament delivery. Claim 16 additionally requires disjoint first and second tracks.

Stated Advantages

Enables medicament delivery through coordinated phased movement of a medicament container carrier and rotation of a rotator housing.

Provides initial linear movement for auto-penetration and reverse linear movement for auto-withdrawal so a needle/cannula is not exposed before or after delivery.

Documented Applications

A medicament delivery device using a drive mechanism with a base member, rotator base member, rotator housing, guide tracks, and a medicament container carrier to enable medicament delivery.
