Abstract

An assembly for a spray device is presented where the assembly has a cartridge containing a liquid to be pressurised, and a micro nozzle configured to produce an aerosol from the pressurised liquid, wherein the micro nozzle is permanently attached to the cartridge.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to an assembly for a spray device in which a cartridge containing a liquid to be pressurized is configured as a syringe provided with a hole. A micro nozzle is configured to produce an aerosol from the pressurized liquid and is permanently attached to the syringe. The micro nozzle is positioned in the hole and is mounted in a cartridge adapter fixed to a tip of the syringe so that the micro nozzle is held in position relative to the syringe.

The assembly further includes cartridge adapter structures and mounting options that hold the micro nozzle in alignment with the cartridge hole, forming an aerosol flow path from micro nozzle inlet orifices to micro nozzle outlet orifices. The micro nozzle can have a hexagonal or polygonal shape fitting in a round hole, and the micro nozzle can be attached by press fit and/or adhesive or glued attachments. The cartridge adapter can be fixed by press fit or glue, with optional hermetic contamination protection using a contamination boot or sheath to protect the hole and micro nozzle.

Manufacturing and integration options are described, including plastic moulding that integrates the micro nozzle, the cartridge adapter, and the syringe together, and permanent attachment using a crimp seal with the adapter and nozzle aligned prior to filling and sterilisation. The described arrangement enables replacement of spent cartridges without replacing the whole cartridge holder, and optionally allows replacement of the micro nozzle without replacing the entire cartridge holder.

Claims Coverage

The partial content includes three independent claims, centered on the permanent attachment of a micro nozzle to a pressurizable syringe cartridge via a cartridge adapter, with positioning of the micro nozzle in a hole and aerosol generation through inlet and outlet orifices.

Permanently attached micro nozzle in syringe hole held by cartridge adapter

An assembly for a spray device comprising a syringe cartridge with a hole containing a liquid to be pressurized, a micro nozzle permanently attached to the syringe and positioned in the hole, and a cartridge adapter fixed to a tip of the syringe and configured to hold the micro nozzle in position relative to the syringe, wherein the micro nozzle is mounted in the cartridge adapter.

Pre- or concurrent permanent nozzle attachment via cartridge adapter

A method of assembling an assembly for a spray device in which attaching a micro nozzle permanently to a tip of a cartridge via a cartridge adapter occurs before or in conjunction with filling of the cartridge, wherein the cartridge is a syringe provided with a hole, the micro nozzle is positioned in the hole, and the micro nozzle is mounted in the cartridge adapter.

Pressurizable cartridge with inlet and outlet orifices producing aerosol flow

An assembly comprising a cartridge holder, a pressurizable cartridge containing a liquid, and a micro nozzle permanently attached to a tip of the cartridge adjacent a proximal end via a cartridge adapter, wherein the micro nozzle is operatively positioned within a hole located at the proximal end, the micro nozzle is mounted in the cartridge adapter, and the micro nozzle has an inlet orifice adjacent the proximal end and an outlet orifice in fluid communication such that when the cartridge is pressurized the liquid flows through the inlet orifice and exits the outlet orifice as an aerosol.

Across the independent claims, the core claim coverage is the same: a cartridge adapter fixed to a syringe tip holds a micro nozzle that is permanently attached and positioned in a hole, with aerosol produced when pressurization causes liquid to flow through defined micro-nozzle inlet and outlet orifices.

Stated Advantages

Enables replacement of spent cartridges without replacing the whole cartridge holder.

Optionally enables replacement of the micro nozzle without replacing the whole cartridge holder.

Documented Applications

Replacement of spent cartridges in a spray device assembly that uses a permanently attached micro nozzle and cartridge adapter.
