Abstract
A clot retrieval device is described herein. The clot retrieval device includes a capturing basket that is deployable to the side of a clot in a blood vessel. The capturing basket is configured to allow for the clot to ingress into the capturing basket and surround at least a portion of the clot.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a clot retrieval device having a delivery shaft with a distal delivery shaft end and a capturing basket coupled to the distal delivery shaft end. The capturing basket includes a first basket end and a second basket end, and a plurality of cells defined by struts whose strut ends are connected to the first and second basket ends. The capturing basket also includes at least four body markers disposed on the capturing basket.
A support component is coupled to the distal delivery shaft end and is disposed within the capturing basket. The support component includes a first support portion with a first end, a second end, and a first lumen, and a second support portion with a first end, a second end, and a second lumen, where the first and second ends are disposed within the basket. The device architecture supports alternative mechanisms to expand, elongate, and collapse the capturing basket.
The capturing basket and its cells are characterized by basket and cell geometry and quantitative ranges, including basket diameter and length, cell size and shape, outward radial force, strut width and thickness, and strut surface heterogeneity. The struts may include grooves and/or protrusions, and body markers may be radiopaque. Visualization and monitoring of marker spacing is described as detecting retention versus escape while rotation and torque transfer enable controlled shearing and dislodging.
Claims Coverage
The relevant disclosure includes one independent claim directed to a clot retrieval device and dependent claims refining basket structure, marker characteristics, and rotation and torque transfer for controlled shearing.
Clot retrieval device with capturing basket cells and body markers
A clot retrieval device comprising a delivery shaft having a distal delivery shaft end, a capturing basket coupled to the distal delivery shaft end including a first basket end, a second basket end, and a plurality of cells defined by struts connected to the first and second basket ends, and at least four body markers disposed on the capturing basket.
Support component within capturing basket with first and second support portions and lumens
The clot retrieval device further comprising a support component coupled to the distal delivery shaft end and disposed within the capturing basket, where the support component includes a first support portion with a first lumen and a second support portion with a second lumen, with ends of both portions disposed within the basket.
Across the independent claim, the core coverage is a clot retrieval device combining a delivery shaft, a capturing basket formed by struts defining cells and carrying at least four body markers, and a support component disposed within the basket with first and second support portions and respective lumens. Dependent refinements further characterize the basket geometry, marker properties, strut surface heterogeneity, and rotation and torque transfer.
