Abstract
A resuscitation system including a device or kit adapted for connection to a gas outlet of a resuscitation bag with a first gas inlet thereto and upstream of a face mask, the device or kit providing gas flow in a path from the bag to the mask. A check valve is operably connected to the gas outlet of the resuscitation bag and substantially blocking gas flow upstream thereof and allowing gas flow downstream thereof. A first safety release valve operably located downstream of the resuscitation bag and operable to release gas from the gas flow path at a predetermined pressure differential between the path and ambient. The first safety release valve is located downstream of the check valve.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a manual resuscitation system or kit adapted for connection to a gas outlet of a resuscitation bag with a first gas inlet and positioned upstream of a face mask. The system provides gas flow in a gas flow path from the bag to the mask and includes a check valve operably connected to the gas outlet. The check valve substantially blocks gas flow upstream and allows gas flow downstream.
The system further includes safety release functions for venting gas to ambient based on pressure relationships. A first safety release valve is operably located downstream of the resuscitation bag and is operable to release gas from the gas flow path at a first predetermined pressure differential between the path and ambient. In the configurations recited, the first safety release valve is located downstream of the check valve, and a second safety release valve is also provided with a specified upstream or downstream relative location.
The disclosed system can further include a downstream air/supplemental oxygen inlet providing oxygen on the patient side of the check valve, and an optional PEEP valve with a biological filter integrated in a PEEP valve housing to prevent exhaled particle escape to atmosphere. The disclosed system can also include a selectively attachable pressure gauge port downstream of the check valve and optional capnography monitoring. The disclosure also describes a surgically sterilized sterile-package kit configuration containing one or more components, including the bag, check valve, mask, and optional PEEP/tubing.
Claims Coverage
The provided independent claims cover a resuscitation system/device or kit with a check valve and one or two safety release valves having specified relative placement around the check valve and a pressure-differential venting function to ambient. The inventive features include a first predetermined pressure differential relief valve positioned downstream of the check valve, and in one claim an additional second safety release valve positioned upstream of the check valve.
Downstream check-valve with upstream blocking
A check valve operably connected to the gas outlet of the resuscitation bag and substantially blocking gas flow upstream and allowing gas flow downstream thereof.
First safety release valve venting at predetermined pressure differential
A first safety release valve operably located downstream of the resuscitation bag and operable to release gas from the gas flow path at a first predetermined pressure differential between the path and ambient.
First safety release valve downstream of the check valve
Wherein the first safety release valve is located downstream of the check valve.
Second safety release valve upstream of the check valve
And wherein the second safety release valve is located upstream of the check valve.
Valve housing with check valve and downstream relief
A valve housing adapted for connection to a gas outlet of a resuscitation bag, wherein the check valve is located within the valve housing and the first safety release valve connected to the valve housing is located downstream of the resuscitation bag and operable to release gas at a first predetermined pressure differential between the path and ambient, with the first safety release valve located downstream of the check valve.
Across the independent claims, the coverage focuses on providing gas flow from a resuscitation bag to a face mask using a check valve that blocks upstream flow, while controlling overpressure through safety release valves venting to ambient at a predetermined pressure differential, with the first safety release valve required downstream of the check valve and (in one claim) a second safety release valve required upstream of the check valve.
