Abstract
Apparatus, systems, and methods are provided for generating a quantified indicator of cognitive skills in an individual. In certain configurations, the apparatus, systems, and methods can be implemented for enhancing cognitive skills in an individual.
Core Innovation
The invention provides a cognitive platform or application instance that includes a graphical user interface and one or more computerized stimuli or interaction configured to prompt user-generated inputs associated with at least one task. The at least one task comprises a time-varying task having a response deadline, and the system presents a computerized adjustable element in association with the task or in response to the user-generated inputs. The platform receives user-generated inputs associated with the task based on the stimuli or interaction and the adjustable element, and it includes an input device comprising one or more sensors to measure a physical action of a user temporally and spatially.
The invention analyzes the one or more user-generated inputs associated with the task in response to the computerized stimuli or interaction and the computerized adjustable element to generate at least one performance metric. The analysis includes analyzing a degree to which a performance level of the user at the task is affected in the presence of the computerized adjustable element. The invention includes selectively discriminating between windows of response of the user to target versus non-target stimuli by selectively controlling a state of the sensors to measure the physical action of the user temporally and spatially.
In response to the at least one performance metric, the invention modifies at least one interaction sequence for the computerized stimuli or interaction and/or modifies the computerized adjustable element. The platform thereby adapts an interaction sequence and/or the adjustable element based on quantified performance metrics, including metrics reflecting cognitive processing or interference cost as described in the claim refinements.
Claims Coverage
The document explicitly provides three independent claims: a system claim, a method claim, and a non-transitory computer-readable medium claim. Across these independent claims, the core inventive features include a cognitive platform graphical user interface, time-varying tasks with response deadlines, computerized adjustable elements, sensor-based temporally and spatially measured user physical actions, generation of performance metrics based on how performance is affected by the adjustable element, selective discrimination between target versus non-target response windows, and modification of the stimuli/interaction and/or adjustable element in response to the performance metric.
Cognitive platform graphical user interface with time-varying task and response deadline
Generating a graphical user interface comprising an instance of a cognitive platform or application; presenting one or more computerized stimuli or interaction configured to prompt a user-generated input associated with at least one task; wherein the at least one task comprises a time-varying task having a response deadline.
Computerized adjustable element associated with the task
Presenting, via the graphical user interface, at least one computerized adjustable element in association with the at least one task or in response to the one or more user-generated inputs.
Sensor-measured physical action temporally and spatially
Receiving user-generated inputs in response to the computerized stimuli or interaction and the at least one computerized adjustable element, wherein receiving comprises using an input device comprising one or more sensors configured to measure a physical action of a user temporally and spatially.
Performance metrics from analysis of user inputs with adjustable element influence
Analyzing the one or more user-generated inputs associated with the at least one task in response to the computerized stimuli or interaction and the at least one computerized adjustable element to generate at least one performance metric; wherein analyzing comprises analyzing a degree to which a performance level of the user at the at least one task is affected in the presence of the at least one computerized adjustable element.
Selective discrimination of target vs non-target response windows by sensor state
Receiving the user-generated inputs comprises selectively discriminating between windows of response of the user to target versus non-target stimuli by selectively controlling a state of the one or more sensors of the input device to measure the physical action temporally and spatially.
Adaptive modification of interaction sequence and/or adjustable element in response to performance metric
Modifying at least one interaction sequence for the one or more computerized stimuli or interaction and/or modifying the one or more computerized stimuli or interaction or the at least one computerized adjustable element in response to the at least one performance metric.
The independent claims cover a cognitive platform that presents time-varying tasks with response deadlines and a computerized adjustable element, measures user physical action temporally and spatially via sensors, analyzes user inputs to generate at least one performance metric based on how performance is affected, and adaptively modifies the interaction sequence and/or the adjustable element in response to the performance metric.
Stated Advantages
Generates at least one performance metric reflecting a degree to which a performance level of the user at the at least one task is affected in the presence of the computerized adjustable element.
Supports selectively discriminating between windows of response to target versus non-target stimuli.
Modifies at least one interaction sequence and/or the computerized stimuli or interaction or the computerized adjustable element in response to the at least one performance metric.
