Abstract

A physiological patient monitoring system with a healthcare professional-facing interface is disclosed. The healthcare professional interface may only display by default the most critical non-confidential patient information. To access the full range of features in the system, clinicians can unlock the device. Once unlocked, clinicians can access all of a patient's treatment history, and all the data may be consolidated and presented intuitively.

Core Innovation

The invention discloses a physiological patient monitoring system with a healthcare professional-facing interface configured to display critical, non-confidential patient information by default. This system is designed to present information in a quick, concise, and clear way for healthcare professionals, featuring default locking to protect sensitive data, with access to the full range of features upon secure authentication, such as entering a PIN, scanning RFID, or other secure methods.

Once authenticated, clinicians can access and intuitively view a patient’s entire treatment history and comprehensive data, which may be consolidated into easily digestible interfaces. The system is comprised of a portable electronic device mounted or placed in proximity to a hospital room, capable of automatic safety information generation, data-driven user interfaces, and secure access to deeper patient information.

The problem addressed by this invention is the challenge hospital staff face in quickly identifying critical patient information, as conventional paper charts and indiscriminate data listings often obscure vital facts and hinder patient care. The patented system overcomes this by streamlining and organizing the information display to reduce the potential for medical oversights or errors.

Claims Coverage

There are two independent claims in this patent, each describing a system for displaying patient information and controlling access to confidential data in a hospital environment.

System with portable device and secure receptacle for displaying patient information

The system includes: - A receptacle non-removably positioned in proximity to a door outside a hospital room. - A portable electronic device removably attached to the receptacle, featuring a display and hardware processors. - The device receives patient data from a healthcare data network corresponding to a patient in the room. - The system automatically generates safety information (e.g., PPE warnings) from the patient data. - It generates a first, locked user interface that displays only de-identified information (including the safety information) and features an unlock screen. - Upon receiving care provider authentication (such as PIN, password, RFID, or secure access), a second user interface is generated, showing additional patient data, including personal information and medical data, with some of the data displayed in a fishbone diagram format.

System with dock and portable device for controlled display and access to patient data

This system comprises: - A dock non-removably positioned in proximity to a door of a hospital room. - A portable electronic device that can be secured to the dock, containing a display and hardware processors. - The processors automatically generate safety information (PPE warnings) from patient data for a patient in the room. - A locked, first user interface is generated on the display showing de-identified patient data and safety information, with an unlock screen. - After care provider authentication via the unlock screen, a second user interface presents additional patient information, including all personal and medical details, with certain data presented using a fishbone diagram.

The inventive features collectively cover a portable, secured device or dock-based system for presenting de-identified and full patient data via multi-stage secure interfaces, with automatic safety information generation, location-based device positioning, and access control based on authentication.

Stated Advantages

The system consolidates and intuitively presents critical patient information to healthcare professionals, helping to reduce errors that can have fatal consequences.

By streamlining the display of patient information and automating the generation of safety warnings, the invention allows hospital staff to quickly and easily digest the most important information.

Providing critical data outside the patient’s room allows physicians and staff to review essential information before entering, reducing the risk of overlooking key facts compared to traditional paper chart systems.

Protects patient privacy by defaulting to non-confidential data and requiring authentication to access sensitive or comprehensive information.

Documented Applications

Use in a hospital setting where a portable device or dock, mounted outside or near a patient room, provides healthcare professionals with accessible interfaces for reviewing patient data and safety information.

Display of critical non-confidential patient facts, safety precautions, allergies, and procedure alerts prior to entering a hospital room.

Real-time updating of patient vitals, schedules, medication lists, lab results, timelines, and other medical data for healthcare teams.
