Abstract
A method and system for treating, by filtration, haemorrhagic fluid contained in a container with a view to subsequent autotransfusion, including at least one step of concentrating by filtration said haemorrhagic fluid in order to increase the concentration of red blood cells in the haemorrhagic fluid to reach a target haematocrit level while at the same time removing from the haemorrhagic fluid a filtrate comprising compounds not desired for autotransfusion, further including: a preliminary step of measuring the haematocrit level of the haemorrhagic fluid; and a dilution step consisting in adding to the volume of haemorrhagic fluid to be treated a determined volume of dilution fluid, the determined volume of dilution fluid being calculated as a function of the measured haematocrit level of the haemorrhagic fluid and the target haematocrit level.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to treating haemorrhagic fluid contained in a container by filtration for subsequent autotransfusion. The treatment includes concentration by filtration to increase the concentration of red blood cells in the haemorrhagic fluid to reach a target haematocrit level, while removing from the haemorrhagic fluid a filtrate comprising compounds not desired for autotransfusion.
A preliminary step measures the haematocrit level of the haemorrhagic fluid. A dilution step adds to the volume of haemorrhagic fluid to be treated a determined volume of dilution fluid, calculated as a function of the measured haematocrit level and the target haematocrit level.
The treatment is further parameterised to obtain a concentration of compounds not desired for autotransfusion less than a target concentration of compounds not desired for autotransfusion, and this target concentration is also used to calculate the determined volume of dilution fluid. In system form, a filtration device with tangential filtration separates an intake chamber from a discharge chamber, and a controller programmes dilution fluid delivery as a function of haematocrit measured in the treatment unit.
Claims Coverage
Independent claims cover filtration-based autotransfusion treatment with haematocrit-measured dilution and undesired-compound removal, and a corresponding treatment system with tangential hollow-fibre filtration, a recirculation treatment bag, and sensor-controlled dilution. The inventive features include preliminary haematocrit measurement and controller-parameterised dilution-volume calculation, concentration by filtration to reach target haematocrit while removing a filtrate of compounds not desired for autotransfusion, and specified sequencing and conditional logic around simple filtration versus concentration.
Haematocrit-measured dilution volume to reach target haematocrit during filtration treatment
A method comprising concentration by filtration to increase the concentration of red blood cells to reach a target haematocrit level while removing a filtrate comprising compounds not desired for autotransfusion, further comprising a preliminary step of measuring the haematocrit level; and a dilution step adding a determined volume of dilution fluid calculated as a function of the measured haematocrit level and the target haematocrit level.
Parameterised dilution using target concentration of compounds not desired for autotransfusion
The method is further parameterised to obtain a concentration of compounds not desired for autotransfusion less than a target concentration of compounds not desired for autotransfusion, said target concentration also being used to calculate the determined volume of dilution fluid for the dilution step.
Tangential filtration system with recirculation treatment bag and sensor-controlled dilution line
A system comprising a filtration device with tangential filtration arranged to separate an intake chamber from a discharge chamber, a treatment bag with recirculation line enabling circulation of haemorrhagic fluid through the intake chamber, a discharge line to discharge the filtrate, and a haematocrit sensor arranged to measure a haematocrit level; wherein the system includes a device for controlling the dilution line programmed to control the dilution fluid as a function of the haematocrit level measured by the haematocrit sensor.
First simple filtration without concentration and without prior dilution, followed by dilution and concentration
A method comprising a first step of simple filtration without concentration and without prior dilution of the volume of haemorrhagic fluid to be treated, followed at least by a dilution step and a step of concentration by filtration.
Conditional first treatment based on threshold haematocrit level
A method further comprising conditional first treatment logic based on a threshold haematocrit level value, wherein if the haematocrit level is greater than the threshold haematocrit level value the first step consists in simple filtration without concentration and without prior dilution, and if the haematocrit level is less than or equal to the threshold haematocrit level value the first step consists in a concentration by filtration without prior dilution.
The core coverage is filtration-based autotransfusion treatment using preliminary haematocrit measurement to calculate a determined dilution-fluid volume for addition before or during filtration steps, together with removal of a filtrate containing compounds not desired for autotransfusion. The system claim further specifies tangential filtration, a recirculation treatment bag, a haematocrit sensor, and controller-programmed dilution fluid delivery as a function of measured haematocrit.
Stated Advantages
Increase the concentration of red blood cells in the haemorrhagic fluid to reach a target haematocrit level.
Remove from the haemorrhagic fluid a filtrate comprising compounds not desired for autotransfusion.
