Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a system for remote assessment of a patient, comprising: a first device associated to a physician, a second device associated to the patient, a medical device associated to the patient, wherein the second device is configured to communicate with the medical device, and wherein the medical device is configured to be programmed via the second device, wherein the first device is further configured to communicate with the second device, and wherein the second device is configured to be controlled via the first device, and wherein the second device is configured to acquire data indicative of at least one physiological parameter or of several physiological parameters of the patient. Furthermore, a method for remote assessment is provided.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a system for remote assessment of a patient that includes a first device associated to a physician and a second device associated to the patient. The second device comprises or is connected to a camera configured to acquire an optical image or a sequence of optical images of at least a portion of the patient, and the first device communicates with the second device and/or with a service center, while the second device communicates with a medical device associated to the patient.
The first device and/or the second device and/or an external server analyzes the optical image acquired by the second device to determine one or more physiological parameters, including perspiration, a degree of eye opening, a dilation of the pupils, a state of focus of the eyes, posture, and/or the number and/or length of wrinkle lines of the face or a quantity derived therefrom. The system generates feedback data including the one or more physiological parameters and calculates a score that is a quantified composite measure of the one or more physiological parameters before stimulation and the feedback data after stimulation.
The first device is configured to display the score via a user interface. The user interface allows a user to create or select a baseline period, a facial reference mark, and/or a posture reference mark, and to add, remove, confirm, or adjust a physiological parameter, thereby supporting remote assessment for a patient receiving stimulation using the medical device.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim defines a remote patient assessment system with camera-based acquisition of optical images, analysis to determine physiological parameters, generation of feedback data, and calculation and user-interface display of a quantified composite score comparing before stimulation and after stimulation data, with configurable baseline period and reference marks and configurable physiological parameter selection.
Physician-associated and patient-associated remote assessment devices with camera acquisition
A first device associated to a physician and a second device associated to the patient, where the second device comprises or is connected to a camera configured to acquire an optical image or a sequence of optical images of at least a portion of the patient, and where the first device communicates with the second device and/or with a service center and the second device communicates with a medical device.
Optical image analysis to determine physiological parameters and generate feedback data
Analyzing the optical image acquired by the second device to determine one or more physiological parameters including perspiration; a degree of eye opening; a dilation of the pupils; a state of focus of the eyes; a posture; or a number and/or length of wrinkle lines of the face or a quantity derived therefrom, and generating feedback data including the one or more physiological parameters.
Quantified composite score from before stimulation and after stimulation physiological parameters
Calculating a score, wherein the score is a quantified composite measure of the one or more physiological parameters before stimulation and the feedback data after stimulation, and displaying the score via a user interface.
User-configurable baseline period and reference marks for physiological parameters
Configuring the user interface to allow a user to create or select a baseline period, a facial reference mark, and/or a posture reference mark; and to add, remove, confirm, or adjust a physiological parameter.
Audio sensing to generate additional physiological parameters
Including an audio signal generated by the patient, acquired by a microphone connected to the second device, and analyzing the audio signal to determine physiological parameters including the patient's speech tonality and/or speech pattern and the patient's breathing rate.
Implantable medical device for patient stimulation
Configuring the system so that the medical device is an implantable medical device associated to the patient, and configuring the system to provide neurostimulation to a patient using the medical device.
Weighted-sum computation of the composite score
Determining the score by calculating a weighted sum.
Across the independent and identified dependent claims, the core coverage is a remote system that acquires optical images via a patient-associated camera device, analyzes them to determine physiological parameters, generates feedback data, and computes and displays a quantified composite score comparing before stimulation and after stimulation parameters, with user-configurable baseline and reference marks and physiological parameter selection. Dependent refinements add optional audio acquisition and analysis for speech-related and breathing parameters, constrain the medical device to an implantable neurostimulation device, and specify a weighted-sum computation for the score.
Stated Advantages
Displays a score that is a quantified composite measure of physiological parameters before stimulation and feedback data after stimulation.
Allows user configuration of a baseline period and reference marks (facial reference mark and/or posture reference mark) and selection and adjustment of physiological parameters.
Documented Applications
Remote assessment of a patient receiving neurostimulation, including remote programming/control of an implantable medical device via the patient-associated second device and feedback based on analyzed optical (and optionally audio) data.
