Abstract
A fluidic system includes a chamber with movable elements. The chamber is connected to a channel. The system contains at least one structured component and at least one element affixed thereto and at least one fluidic interface which can be closed by means of a cap or valve. Fluids or gases can be moved via one or more channels, and moreover can be dispensed from or taken into the system, by moving the movable element both into and out of the chamber. There is provided an additional element (filters, membranes, frits or similar elements) or integrated reagents which can be arranged in the form of an array of identical or different reagents.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a fluidic system that uses a flat structured component with a chamber and a channel system formed on a first main side. The chamber and the channel system are closed fluid-tightly with a component separate from the flat structured component, and the chamber and the channel system are fluidically connected to an outside via the channel system and at least one fluidic interface, where the fluidic interface is an opening protruding as a projection from a side surface of the flat structured component.
An externally accessible flexible or movable portion of the component is configured to be moved at least into a region of the chamber or beyond a plane of the chamber. By movement of this flexible or movable portion, fluids or gases are configured to be taken in or discharged through the fluidic interface or moved in the fluidic system, and the flexible or movable portion is configured to be moved manually or with an operating device.
The described system includes at least one functional element configured as a filter, a membrane, a frit or a functional paper. The channel system is arranged to integrate functional elements and fluidic control elements, including at least one valve, and enables sequential or parallel arrangements of functional elements in a flow direction.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim covers a fluidic system with a flat structured component sealed fluid-tightly by a separate component, where an externally accessible flexible or movable portion mechanically drives the intake and discharge of fluids or gases through at least one protruding fluidic interface. The claim coverage includes at least one functional element and multiple dependent refinements that add valves, discharge mechanisms via pressurizing the chamber, ways of taking in fluids, specific blood-processing functional elements, and dilution using fluid reservoirs with defined volumes.
Flat structured component with chamber and channel system
A flat structured component having a first main side and a second main side being parallel to each other, the flat structured component having a chamber and a channel system.
Functional element configured as filter, membrane, frit or functional paper
At least one functional element being configured as a filter, a membrane, a frit or a functional paper.
Separate component sealing fluid-tightly
A component having an externally accessible flexible or movable portion, the component is separate and distinct from the flat structured component, wherein the chamber and the channel system are closed fluid-tightly with the component.
Fluidic connection via channel system and protruding fluidic interface
The chamber and the channel system are fluidically connected to an outside via the channel system and at least one fluidic interface, wherein the at least one fluidic interface is an opening of the channel system on a side surface of the flat structured component, the at least one fluidic interface protrudes as a projection from one side surface of the flat structured component.
Movable portion driven manual intake and discharge through fluidic interface
The externally accessible flexible or movable portion of the component is configured to be moved at least into a region of the chamber or beyond a plane of the chamber, wherein, by a movement of the flexible or movable portion of the component, fluids or gases are configured to be taken in or discharged through the fluidic interface or moved in the fluidic system, wherein the flexible or movable portion of the component is configured to be moved manually or with an operating device and it is possible to press in or move up the flexible or movable portion.
Overall, the claims are directed to a sealed, cartridge-like fluidic system in which a separate sealing component with an externally accessible flexible or movable portion mechanically drives intake and discharge of fluids or gases through protruding fluidic interfaces, while supporting integrated functional elements such as filters, membranes, frits or functional paper.
