Abstract
A method, apparatus, system, and computer program product provide visual verification of electronic data. A computer system accesses an electronic document. The computer system parses the electronic document to identify an assertion about a person. The computer system identifies an organization that maintains records capable of sustaining the assertion. The computer system sends a request to the organization to search for information about the person that substantiates the assertion. In response to receiving a reply that substantiates the assertion, the computer system generates a verification badge in the context of the organization. The computer system transforms the electronic document to display a verified document that associates the verification badge with the assertion. The computer system displays the verified document, including the verification badge in association with the assertion.
Core Innovation
The invention provides a data verification system and method for providing visual verification of electronic data in an electronic document associated with a first device. One or more processing circuits access the electronic document, parse it to identify an assertion included in the electronic document, and identify an organization that maintains records capable of substantiating the assertion, where the organization comprises an independent third-party.
Responsive to receiving login information from the first device, the system creates an access context to restrict access to information that verifies the assertion, with the login information associated with the organization capable of substantiating the assertion. The system generates a request with the access context configured to grant the organization authorization to retrieve information that verifies the assertion, and sends the request to the organization to search for the information that verifies the assertion, including the access context used to obtain authorization.
In response to receiving a reply that substantiates the assertion, the system generates a verification badge in a context of the organization. The verification badge includes a graphic image associated with the organization, and the system transforms the electronic document to display the verification badge in association with the assertion and the graphic image associated with the organization, including altering a document object model and a cascading style sheet accessed to display the electronic document within a graphical user interface.
Claims Coverage
The partial content provides three independent claims (a method, a system, and a computer program product). Across these independent claims, there are six repeated inventive features: parsing an assertion in an electronic document, using an independent third-party organization to substantiate the assertion, creating an access context from login information, generating an authorization-controlled request, generating a verification badge with an organization-associated graphic image, and transforming the electronic document to display the badge in a graphical user interface.
Parsing an electronic document assertion for substantiation
Accessing and parsing an electronic document associated with a first device to identify an assertion included in the electronic document.
Independent third-party organization records for substantiating the assertion
Identifying an organization that maintains records capable of substantiating the assertion, wherein the organization comprises an independent third-party.
Access context created from login information to restrict verification access
Creating, responsive to receiving login information from the first device, an access context to restrict access to information that verifies the assertion, the login information associated with the organization capable of substantiating the assertion.
Authorization-controlled request using the access context to retrieve verifying information
Generating a request with the access context that is configured to grant the organization with authorization to retrieve information that verifies the assertion and sending, to the organization, the request to search for the information that verifies the assertion.
Organization-context verification badge with organization graphic image
In response to receiving a reply that substantiates the assertion, generating a verification badge in a context of the organization, including identifying a graphic image associated with the organization for inclusion in the verification badge.
Transforming the document object model and cascading style sheet to display the verification badge
Transforming the electronic document to display the verification badge in association with the assertion and the graphic image associated with the organization, including altering a document object model and a cascading style sheet accessed to display the electronic document, and displaying the transformed electronic document within a graphical user interface.
All independent claims cover a workflow where an assertion in an electronic document is parsed, substantiation is obtained from an independent third-party organization through an authorization-controlled request using an access context derived from login information, and a verification badge including an organization-associated graphic image is displayed by transforming the electronic document in a graphical user interface.
Stated Advantages
Improves trust in the displayed information by visually verifying assertions in an electronic document.
Reduces time and cost compared with manual or third-party verification searches.
Documented Applications
Visually verifying assertions in an electronic document such as a person’s online social media profile and resume assertions.
Visually verifying resume-based assertions including prior job, prior position, current position, current job, current company, prior company, college attended, and degree obtained.
Substantiating assertions using payroll services organization records including payroll data such as salary, wage, bonus, and tax deduction.
