Abstract

A negative pressure (i.e., vacuum or suction) wound healing device and system incorporating the device. The device of the present disclosure is smaller, lighter, portable, and overall more manageable by both the user and the medical personnel than the conventional systems. The device could be readily worn by the user.

The disclosed invention is a portable negative-pressure wound therapy device and system that applies negative pressure on a wound using a pump and an input line or vacuum line extending through a housing configured to be mounted on a person. The spray-in foam is located within the wound below the dressing material and is exposed to negative pressure provided by the pump or device.

The system further includes wound monitoring using at least one sensor, where the sensor is configured to monitor the wound and is an infection sensor. In disclosed embodiments, the infection sensor includes a reagent configured to change from a first state to a second state, including a transition between a first color and a second color when exposed to infected exudate. In other embodiments, the system includes additional monitoring that measures wound parameters and/or wound healing rate.
