Abstract
Embodiments include implantable valves with attached polymeric components. In an embodiment, an implantable valve is included having a frame comprising a plurality of frame struts. The frame defines a central lumen and at least one of the frame struts defines a connection aperture. The implantable valve can include at least one valve leaflet including a coaptation edge and two connection portions, with one connection portion disposed on either end of the coaptation edge. The connection portion can be disposed within the connection aperture thereby coupling the valve leaflet to the frame. Other embodiments are also included herein.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to an implantable valve comprising a frame with a plurality of frame struts that define a central lumen, where at least one frame strut defines a connection aperture. The valve further includes at least one valve leaflet having a coaptation edge and two connection portions disposed on either end of the coaptation edge, and the connection portion is disposed within the connection aperture thereby coupling the valve leaflet to the frame.
In the disclosed structure, the coaptation edge and the two connection portions are integrally formed components of the at least one valve leaflet. Some portions of the frame are not encircled by connection portions with the at least one valve leaflet coupled to the frame.
The invention also includes polymeric skirt components attached to the frame using frame-defined connection apertures. An inner skirt is disposed on a luminal surface of the frame and comprises a skirt connection projection that extends into a skirt connection aperture defined by a strut, thereby coupling the inner skirt to the frame, with the inner skirt and the skirt connection projection integrally formed with each other. An outer skirt is disposed on an abluminal surface of the frame and is coupled to the frame in a corresponding manner, with some portions of the frame remaining not encircled by the connection portions.
Claims Coverage
The independent claims are 1, 13, and 17. Across these independent claims, the coverage includes frame-defined connection apertures for coupling integrally formed valve leaflets, and coupling of an inner skirt and/or an outer skirt via strut-defined skirt connection apertures and skirt connection projections, leaving some frame portions not encircled by connection portions.
Frame with connection aperture for leaflet coupling
A frame comprising a plurality of frame struts defining a central lumen and wherein at least one frame strut defines a connection aperture.
Coaptation edge with integrally formed connection portions disposed within apertures
At least one valve leaflet comprising a coaptation edge and two connection portions disposed on either end of the coaptation edge, where the connection portion is disposed within the connection aperture thereby coupling the valve leaflet to the frame; wherein the coaptation edge and the two connection portions are integrally formed components of the at least one valve leaflet.
Some frame portions not encircled by leaflet connection portions
Some portions of the frame are not encircled by connection portions with the at least one valve leaflet coupled to the frame.
Inner skirt coupled via strut-defined skirt connection aperture
An inner skirt disposed on a luminal surface of the frame, where the inner skirt comprises a skirt connection projection that extends into a skirt connection aperture defined by a strut thereby coupling the inner skirt to the frame.
Inner skirt and skirt connection projection integrally formed
Wherein the inner skirt and the skirt connection projection are integrally formed with each other.
Some frame portions not encircled by inner skirt connection portions
Some portions of the frame are not encircled by connection portions with the inner skirt coupled to the frame.
Outer skirt coupled via strut-defined skirt connection aperture
An outer skirt disposed on an abluminal surface of the frame, where the outer skirt comprises a skirt connection projection that extends into a skirt connection aperture defined by a strut thereby coupling the outer skirt to the frame.
Outer skirt and skirt connection projection integrally formed
Wherein the outer skirt and the skirt connection projection are integrally formed with each other.
Some frame portions not encircled by outer skirt connection portions
Some portions of the frame are not encircled by connection portions with the outer skirt coupled to the frame.
Overall, the independent claims cover an implantable valve where integrally formed valve leaflets are coupled to a frame through frame-defined connection apertures in frame struts, with optional inner skirt and/or outer skirt components coupled via strut-defined skirt connection apertures and integrally formed skirt connection projections, while leaving some portions of the frame not encircled by the coupled polymeric components.
