Abstract

A system for producing a graft device for a patient may comprise: an imaging device configured to produce image data of a tubular conduit; and a processing unit configured to receive the image data from the imaging device. The processing unit may comprise an algorithm configured to process the image data, and produce a construction signal based on the image data. A material delivery device may be configured to receive the construction signal from the processor, and deliver material to produce a 3D covering based on the construction signal. The graft device may comprise the 3D covering positioned about the tubular conduit. Graft devices and methods of producing graft devices may also be provided.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to producing a graft device by imaging an electrospun conduit. The method generates image data of the imaged electrospun conduit, and then uses that produced image data to generate a construction signal.

A material is delivered to produce a covering about the electrospun conduit based on the generated construction signal, so that the graft device comprises the covering positioned about the electrospun conduit. At least one physical property of the covering is defined by thickness data of the electrospun conduit.

Claims Coverage

The patent includes one independent claim, which defines the method for producing a graft device. The independent claim contains four main inventive features, with dependent claims further specifying implant types and covering material selections.

Imaging an electrospun conduit and producing image data

The method comprises imaging an electrospun conduit and producing image data of the imaged electrospun conduit.

Generating a construction signal from the produced image data

The method comprises generating a construction signal based on the produced image data.

Delivering material to produce a covering about the electrospun conduit

The method comprises delivering a material to produce a covering about the electrospun conduit based on the generated construction signal, wherein the graft device comprises the covering positioned about the electrospun conduit.

Defining covering properties using thickness data

At least one physical property of the covering is defined by thickness data of the electrospun conduit.

Graft device comprises an implant selected from specified implant types

The graft device comprises an implant selected from a specified group of vascular grafts, organ/tissue grafts, replacement implants, and related combinations.

Covering material selected from specified material classes

The material comprises one or more materials selected from a listed group including polymers, proteins, enzymes, biomolecules, metals/metal alloys, and ceramics/bioceramics, and combinations.

Overall, the claims cover an imaging-to-construction-signal workflow for producing a covering about an electrospun conduit to form a graft device, with the added limitation that at least one covering property is defined by thickness data from the electrospun conduit. Dependent claims further specify the implant types that the graft device can include and enumerate broad covering material classes that can be used.
