Abstract
A shelf-stable concentrated antimicrobial composition and method of using same comprises: at least one cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof in an amount from about 1 wt. % to about 10 wt. %; at least one anionic surfactant in an amount from about 10 wt. % to about 35 wt. %; at least one non-surfactant strong acid having a pKa less than about 2.3 in an amount from about 2 wt. % to about 25 wt. %; and at least one chelating agent in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 10 wt. %. The composition retains at least 90% of its original antimicrobial efficacy after storage for at least five years at room temperature, and is substantially free of hydrogen peroxide, sources of hydrogen peroxide, parabens, aldehydes, aldehyde releasing agents, phenols, biguanides, peroxycarboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine compounds, enzymes, and etchants.
Core Innovation
The disclosure describes a shelf-stable concentrated antimicrobial composition comprising at least one cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof, at least one anionic surfactant, at least one non-surfactant strong acid having a pKa less than about 2.3, and at least one chelating agent. The composition optionally includes corrosion inhibitor, nonionic surfactant, organic solvent, and water q.s. to 100.
The composition is defined to retain at least 90% of its original antimicrobial efficacy after storage for at least five years at room temperature. It is substantially free of hydrogen peroxide, sources of hydrogen peroxide, parabens, aldehydes, aldehyde releasing agents, phenols, biguanides, peroxycarboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine compounds, enzymes, and etchants.
The concentrated embodiment specifies weight-percent ranges for the cyclic carboxylic acid, anionic surfactant, non-surfactant strong acid, chelating agent, corrosion inhibitor, nonionic surfactant, organic solvent, and water, while maintaining the same shelf-stable efficacy retention and substantially-free ingredient limitations.
Claims Coverage
The document includes two independent claims, clm-00001 and clm-00016. The claims cover two related inventive features: a shelf-stable antimicrobial composition with defined component classes and performance limits, and a concentrated shelf-stable antimicrobial composition with narrower weight-percent ranges for those components.
Shelf-stable antimicrobial composition with cyclic carboxylic acid, anionic surfactant, strong acid, and chelating agent
A shelf-stable antimicrobial composition comprising a cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof, an anionic surfactant, a non-surfactant strong acid having a pKa less than about 2.3, and a chelating agent, with optional corrosion inhibitor, nonionic surfactant, organic solvent, and water q.s. to 100.
Efficacy retention and exclusion of specified ingredient classes
The shelf-stable composition retains at least 90% of its original antimicrobial efficacy after storage for at least five years at room temperature and is substantially free of hydrogen peroxide, sources of hydrogen peroxide, parabens, aldehydes, aldehyde releasing agents, phenols, biguanides, peroxycarboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine compounds, enzymes, and etchants.
Concentrated shelf-stable antimicrobial composition with narrowed component ranges
A shelf-stable concentrated antimicrobial composition comprising a cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof, anionic surfactant, non-surfactant strong acid, chelating agent, corrosion inhibitor, nonionic surfactant, and organic solvent in specified weight-percent ranges, plus water q.s. to 100.
Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on a shelf-stable antimicrobial composition defined by a cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof, anionic surfactant, non-surfactant strong acid with pKa less than about 2.3, and chelating agent, together with a 90% efficacy-retention requirement after five years at room temperature and substantial freedom from the listed ingredient classes.
Stated Advantages
Retains at least 90% of its original antimicrobial efficacy after storage for at least five years at room temperature.
Is substantially free of hydrogen peroxide, sources of hydrogen peroxide, and multiple other specified ingredient classes.
Documented Applications
Reducing microbial contamination on a surface by applying an effective amount of the composition [procedural detail omitted for safety].
