Abstract
Methods and systems for maintaining user attention during a treatment are disclosed. The method comprises measuring at least one user parameter when presenting treatment content to the user via at least one display screen, determining whether the user is engaged with the presented treatment content based on the at least one measured user parameter, presenting an attention booster to the user upon determining the user is not engaged with the treatment content. The system comprises at least one display apparatus configured to present treatment content to the user and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on a memory to measure at least one user parameter when the treatment content is presented to the user, determine whether the user is engaged with the presented treatment content based on the at least one measured user parameter, and output to the display apparatus an attention booster to the user upon determining the user is not engaged with the presented treatment content.
Core Innovation
The invention maintains user visual attention during a treatment of a visual disorder by presenting treatment content to a user via at least one display screen. A processor measures at least one user parameter while the treatment content is being presented, and determines that the user is not engaged with the treatment content based on the measured user parameter. When disengagement is determined, the processor presents an attention booster to re-engage the user’s attention on the treatment content.
The attention booster is independent from the treatment content in such a manner that the attention booster is not influenced by the treatment content. The attention booster comprises a visual object that is overlaid on the treatment content to at least partially occlude the treatment content. Attention boosters can be independent from the treatment content and may include interactive tasks, user-preselected content, or occur at time-based intervals.
The disclosed system includes a headset/AR/VR display architecture with per-eye content and dynamic visual modifications based on gaze, including amblyopia-focused techniques to avoid suppression of the weaker eye and to adjust visual input for each eye. Engagement monitoring includes continuous or intermittent measurement of user parameters such as eye movement and other user data, and the engagement loop operates by measuring engagement, determining disengagement, presenting a booster, and re-measuring engagement.
Claims Coverage
The independent claims cover both a method and a system for maintaining user visual attention during a treatment of a visual disorder, using measured user parameters to detect non-engagement and presenting an attention booster that is independent from the treatment content and occludes the treatment content. Across the independent claims, the core inventive features are presented with emphasis on the attention booster being independent, and occluding via an overlaid visual object, with optional timing or engagement-detection measurement variations addressed by dependent claims.
Independent attention booster with occluding visual object
Presenting or outputting an attention booster independent from the treatment content such that the attention booster is not influenced by the treatment content, wherein the attention booster comprises a visual object overlaid on the treatment content to at least partially occlude the treatment content.
Measuring user parameters to detect non-engagement
Measuring at least one user parameter while the treatment content is being presented and determining that the user is not engaged with the treatment content based on the at least one measured user parameter.
Re-engaging attention upon determining non-engagement
Presenting an attention booster to the user upon determining the user is not engaged with the treatment content to re-engage the user's attention on the treatment content.
Time-based intervals for presenting attention booster
Presenting an attention booster at time-based intervals to re-engage the user's attention on the treatment content based on the processor determining that the user is not engaged with the treatment content.
The independent claims collectively define a visual-disorder treatment attention framework in which engagement is assessed from user parameters, non-engagement triggers an attention booster, and the booster is independent from the treatment content while occluding it via an overlaid visual object. One independent claim additionally specifies presenting the booster at time-based intervals.
Stated Advantages
Maintains user visual attention during a treatment of a visual disorder.
Re-engages the user's attention on the treatment content when the user is not engaged.
Prevents the attention booster from being influenced by the treatment content.
Documented Applications
Attention-maintenance during treatment of a visual disorder using treatment content presented via display screens with engagement monitoring and attention boosting [application context explicitly stated as visual disorder treatment].
Headset/AR/VR use for maintaining visual attention during visual disorder treatment with per-eye content and dynamic visual modifications based on gaze.
