Abstract

One embodiment provides a method, including: obtaining EEG data from one or more single channel EEG sensor worn by a user; classifying, using a processor, the EEG data as one of nominal and abnormal; and providing an indication associated with a classification of the EEG data. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to remote electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring that uses at least two discrete, independent wireless sensors to collect single channel EEG signals from a scalp of a patient. The wireless sensors are set up to be placed and oriented at particular locations on the scalp, and periodically transmit their independent single channel EEG signals to a local device and then to a remote device.

The remote device executes an application that receives the independent single channel EEG signals and synchronizes and organizes them to combine the signals into a multi-channel montage. The multi-channel montage is displayed on an interactive device in communication with the remote device, including configurations described as forming a differential montage.

The system and method support transmitting sensor-related information and patient information from the local device toward a remote server over longer distances, and buffering the independent single channel EEG signals at the local device. In related system configurations, each sensor includes two electrode contacts configured to form a single bipolar channel, along with a wireless transmitter that periodically transmits the independent single channel EEG signal.

Claims Coverage

Two independent claims are identified: clm-00001 (method) and clm-00013 (system). The claim set centers on multi-sensor, remote EEG acquisition with independent single-channel bipolar sensors, local buffering, longer-distance transmission, remote synchronization and organization into a multi-channel montage, and interactive display.

Remote multi-sensor EEG setup and placement guidance based on orientation attributes

Setting up at least two discrete, independent wireless sensors on a scalp of a patient, including placing and orienting the wireless sensors at particular locations based on different positions of orientation attributes.

Periodic wireless transmission and local buffering of independent single-channel EEG

Collecting single channel EEG signals by the at least two discrete, independent wireless sensors, periodically transmitting each independent single channel EEG signal to the local device via a wireless transmitter, and buffering the at least two independent single channel EEG signals at the local device.

Remote application synchronization and organization into a multi-channel montage

Transmitting the at least two independent single channel EEG signals from the local device to a remote device, receiving the signals via an application executed on the remote device, synchronizing and organizing the at least two independent single channel EEG signals, and combining them to form a multi-channel montage.

Interactive display of the multi-channel montage

Displaying the multi-channel montage at an interactive device in communication with the remote device.

Bipolar single-channel wireless sensors with orientation attribute and two electrode contacts

A system comprising at least two discrete, independent wireless sensors, each configured to collect an independent single channel EEG signal from a scalp of a patient, wherein each sensor comprises two electrode contacts configured to form a single bipolar channel, a wireless transmitter configured to periodically transmit the independent single channel EEG signal, and an orientation attribute.

Multi-protocol remote transmission including patient information to a server

Setup of the at least two discrete, independent wireless sensors to interact with a local device for initialization, periodically and independently receiving via a first communication protocol each of the at least two independent single channel EEG signals, buffering the at least two independent single channel EEG signals, and transmitting the at least two independent single channel EEG signals and patient information to at least one server via a second communication protocol configured for communication over longer distances than the first communication protocol.

Server-side synchronization and organization into a multi-channel montage for display

Receiving the at least two independent single channel EEG signals and the patient information, synchronizing and organizing the at least two independent single channel EEG signals and the patient information, combining the signals to form a multi-channel montage, and displaying the multi-channel montage.

Across the independent method and system claims, the core coverage is the combination of at least two discrete, independent wireless sensors configured for single bipolar channels, local initialization and buffering, periodic transmission with communication protocols spanning local to longer-distance links, remote synchronization and organization of independent single-channel EEG into a multi-channel montage, and interactive display.

Stated Advantages

Supports real-time display of the multi-channel montage.

Allows marking or annotating EEG trace segments associated with a possible seizure.

Uses communication protocols that transmit EEG signals and patient information over longer distances to a server.

Documented Applications

Remote electroencephalogram monitoring of a patient using a plurality of wireless sensors that combine independent single-channel signals into a multi-channel montage for interactive display.

Seizure-related monitoring by annotating and marking segments associated with a possible seizure in the EEG montage.
