Abstract
This invention provides a set of biological markers that are useful for detecting cancer. This invention further provides methods of using those biological markers for the diagnosis, prognosis, or monitoring of cancer.
Core Innovation
The described invention provides a method for detecting the presence or absence of prostate, head, or neck cancer in a subject by measuring levels of selected markers. The method includes measuring four or more markers in a population of the subject's macrophage cells or in a population of the subject's neutrophil cells, and comparing the levels to identify a difference indicative of cancer presence or absence.
The method further includes measuring levels of at least four or more selected markers in a population of the subject's non-phagocytic cells. Marker measurements in phagocytic immune cells are compared with marker measurements in non-phagocytic cells, and the identified differences are used to indicate whether prostate, head, or neck cancer is present or absent in the subject.
In additional claim language, the invention specifies measuring at least four or more markers in both macrophage cells and neutrophil cells, and measuring corresponding at least four or more markers in non-phagocytic cells for each of those phagocyte populations. The method includes identifying differences between measured levels in the compared contexts, and identifying differences between measured levels or activities in the compared contexts, with both differences stated to be indicative of the presence or absence of the cancer.
Claims Coverage
The partial content provided includes two independent claims, covering cancer detection by measuring selected marker levels in macrophage cells and/or neutrophil cells and comparing them with measurements in non-phagocytic cells. Across the independent claims, the marker panels are defined by named marker groups and each includes at least four or more markers as measured, with comparative identification of differences.
Macrophage marker measurement and non-phagocytic comparison for prostate, head, or neck cancer
A method for detecting the presence or absence of prostate, head, or neck cancer in a subject by measuring levels of four or more markers selected from specified marker groups in macrophage cells, measuring levels of four or more selected markers in non-phagocytic cells, and identifying a difference between the measured levels in macrophage cells and non-phagocytic cells, wherein the identified difference is indicative of cancer presence or absence.
Macrophage and neutrophil marker measurement with dual differences using levels and levels or activities
A method for detecting the presence or absence of a cancer in a subject by measuring levels of at least four or more macrophage-cell markers and at least four or more neutrophil-cell markers, measuring at least four or more of those macrophage-cell markers and at least four or more of those neutrophil-cell markers in non-phagocytic cells, identifying a difference between measured levels and identifying a difference between measured levels or activities in the compared contexts, wherein the differences are indicative of presence or absence of the cancer.
The independent claims cover cancer detection by defined marker-panel measurement in phagocytic immune cell populations and comparison to non-phagocytic cell marker measurements, with cancer indicated by differences between measured levels and, in one claim, also by differences between measured levels or activities.
