Abstract
Described herein are compounds, pharmaceutical compositions and methods of using these compounds and pharmaceutical compositions for treating and/or preventing conditions such as, for example, those caused by any viral family causing respiratory viral disease, including specifically coronaviruses and influenza viruses.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a compound having the structure shown in the claim, together with pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates or solvates thereof. The disclosed compound family is represented by multiple specific chemical structures that share a common scaffold with substituted heteroaromatic or bicyclic cores, amide or carboxamide functionality, and variable aryl and heterocycle substituents.
Across the series, the structures include sulfonamide, sulfone, or sulfonyl-related groups, halogen substituents such as Cl, methoxy or hydroxy groups, and fluorinated substituents such as CF3-substituted phenyls and difluoromethylated substituents. The examples are presented as closely related analogs within the same general structural framework.
The disclosure also provides chemical structure depictions and related synthetic preparations for multiple numbered compounds and intermediates, with LCMS (ESI+) characterization reported for several compounds and intermediates. The document frames these structures as members of the claimed compound series and, in some instances, as compounds prepared through stepwise transformations and interconversion of intermediates.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim set is directed to a single compound having a defined chemical structure and expressly includes pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates or solvates. Dependent claims further add a pharmaceutical composition and therapeutic methods for treating influenza and coronavirus infections by administering either the compound or the pharmaceutical composition, yielding six inventive features in total.
Defined compound structure and pharmaceutically acceptable forms
A compound having the structure, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates or solvates thereof.
Pharmaceutical composition with a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle
A pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle.
Treating influenza infection by administering the compound
A method for treating an influenza infection in a patient by administering the compound to a patient in need thereof.
Treating influenza infection by administering the pharmaceutical composition
A method for treating an influenza infection in a patient by administering the pharmaceutical composition to the patient in need thereof.
Treating coronavirus infection by administering the compound
A method for treating a coronavirus infection in a patient by administering the compound to the patient in need thereof.
Treating coronavirus infection by administering the pharmaceutical composition
A method for treating a coronavirus infection in a patient by administering the pharmaceutical composition to the patient in need thereof.
Coverage centers on the defined compound structure and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates or solvates, and extends to pharmaceutical compositions with a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle and to methods of treating influenza and coronavirus infections by administering either the compound or the pharmaceutical composition.
Stated Advantages
Host targeting with reduced host toxicity is stated, with a molecular basis demonstrated.
A barrier to development of viral resistance mutants is stated for earlier chemotypes.
Documented Applications
Methods of treating and/or preventing pan-respiratory antiviral infections/diseases, including infections caused by coronaviruses and influenza viruses.
Treatment of influenza infection in a patient by administering the compound or a pharmaceutical composition that includes the compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle.
Treatment of coronavirus infection in a patient by administering the compound or a pharmaceutical composition that includes the compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle.
