Abstract
A drug delivery system that includes an elongated inert support and at least two reservoirs containing a pharmaceutically active ingredient. The inert support has a number of wall segments that define at least two compartments arranged for accommodating the at least two reservoirs. The inert support is made of a material which prevents migration or diffusion of the active ingredient from one reservoir into the other or into the support. Since the drug delivery system is divided into compartments, one for each reservoir containing an active ingredient, the release rates of each active ingredient can be independently controlled or adjusted. This is due to the fact that there is no interaction between the active ingredients, and accordingly the active ingredients will not influence each other physically or chemically.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a drug delivery system comprising an elongated inert support and at least two reservoirs comprising an active medicament. The elongated inert support has a longitudinal axis, is without an active medicament, and comprises wall segments integrally formed into the inert support as a single coherent unit defining and separating at least two compartments arranged longitudinally along the axis.
The compartments are displaced around the axis with one of the wall segments positioned between the compartments for accommodating the reservoirs. The inert support and the integrally formed wall segments are made of a material that substantially prevents migration or diffusion of active medicament from one reservoir into another reservoir or into the support.
Each reservoir includes an outer surface through which the active medicament can diffuse or migrate into surroundings, and the outer surface of each reservoir does not extend beyond a perimeter formed about ends of the wall segments of the inert support. The compartments are arranged for accommodating the reservoirs without providing an interface between the at least two reservoirs, and for separating the reservoirs chemically and physically.
Respective compartments and the reservoirs have complementary shapes so that the compartments are complementary to the reservoirs and vice versa.
Claims Coverage
The document provides two independent claim positions focused on an elongated inert support with integrally formed wall segments creating separated longitudinal compartments for multiple reservoirs, where the wall material substantially prevents migration or diffusion between reservoirs while allowing diffusion or migration from each reservoir to surroundings; the claim set also emphasizes the constraint that reservoir outer surfaces are bounded relative to ends of the wall segments and that no interface is provided between reservoirs. Overall, 2 independent inventive frameworks are covered.
Elongated inert support with integrally formed wall segments defining laterally displaced longitudinal compartments
An elongated inert support with a longitudinal axis, without an active medicament, comprising wall segments integrally formed into the inert support such that the wall segments and inert support constitute a single coherent unit defining and separating at least two compartments arranged longitudinally along the axis, with the compartments displaced around the axis and one wall segment positioned between the compartments for accommodating the at least two reservoirs.
Wall material substantially prevents migration or diffusion between reservoirs while reservoirs allow migration to surroundings
The inert support and wall segments that constitute a single coherent unit are made of a material which substantially prevents migration or diffusion of active medicament from one reservoir into another reservoir or into the support, wherein each reservoir includes an outer surface through which the active medicament can diffuse or migrate into surroundings.
No interface between reservoirs with bounded reservoir outer surface relative to ends of wall segments
The outer surface of each reservoir does not extend beyond a perimeter formed about ends of the wall segments of the inert support, and the at least two compartments are arranged for accommodating the at least two reservoirs without providing an interface between the at least two reservoirs, and for separating the at least two reservoirs chemically and physically.
Complementary shapes of compartments and reservoirs
Respective compartments of the inert support have a shape complementary to the at least two reservoirs and vice versa.
Inert support inert longitudinal structure for separated compartments accommodating multiple reservoirs without interface
An inert support having a longitudinal axis, without an active medicament, comprising wall segments integrally formed into the inert support as a single coherent unit defining and separating at least two compartments arranged longitudinally along the axis, with compartments displaced around the axis and arranged for accommodating at least two reservoirs with one wall segment positioned between the compartments.
Single coherent unit structure combining diffusion outward with chemical and physical separation
The inert support and wall segments made of a material which substantially prevents migration or diffusion of an active medicament from one reservoir into another reservoir or into the support, wherein an outer surface of each reservoir does not extend beyond a perimeter formed about ends of the wall segments, and wherein the compartments accommodate the reservoirs without providing an interface between the at least two reservoirs and separate the at least two reservoirs chemically and physically while compartments and reservoirs have complementary shapes and vice versa.
Across the independent claim coverage, the inventive content is centered on an elongated inert support formed as a single coherent unit with integrally formed wall segments that create longitudinally arranged, laterally displaced compartments. The wall material substantially prevents migration or diffusion of active medicament between reservoirs while reservoir outer surfaces permit diffusion or migration into surroundings, under a constraint that reservoir outer surfaces do not extend beyond a perimeter around the ends of the wall segments. The design further requires accommodation of reservoirs without providing an interface between reservoirs and enforces complementary shapes between compartments and reservoirs for chemical and physical separation.
